Job Details

Are you seeking to push the boundaries of what's considered feasible? We're looking for a world-class opto-mechanical engineer to join our engineering team and make a significant impact on the future of Apple! By collaborating with a diverse engineering team, including optical engineers, human perception experts, product design engineers, and experimental physicists, you'll revolutionize the industry's understanding of optics and enhance the product experience for our global customers. In this role, you'll be the driving force behind designing innovative architectures for Apple Vision displays. This position offers a wide range of responsibilities, including prototyping, hardware definition, simulation, and hands-on characterization. You'll work with various actuation and sensing technologies from the conceptual phase to mass production. Together, we'll create a magical experience that redefines what millions of customers can expect from Apple Vision products. Bring passion and dedication to your work, and there's no telling what you could accomplish.

Description Your role will encompass a wide range of responsibilities. You will be responsible for the imaging optics integration within opto-mechanical modules, including architecture, component requirements, sensing, and simulation. You will be responsible for the mechanical design and integration from the conceptual stage to production. You will work on validating and characterizing the module, including its performance, and participate in defining the test requirements. You will also act as the primary responsible party for failure analysis at both the module and system levels. YOU'LL BE EXPECTED TO: - Collaborate with optical, electrical, process, controls systems, sensing, test, and mechanical teams to integrate the opto-mechanical modules into the optical system. - Work with cross-functional team to assess risks, understand coverage needs and priorities, and identify novel characterization techniques to measure key performance metrics of complex and novel components. - Translate module requirements and features into detailed opto-mechanical specifications, develop schedules, and deliver solutions in a predictable and timely manner. - Perform statistical analysis of data to determine module performance. - Visit suppliers to support engineering builds and assist with failure analysis activities. - Generate and maintain comprehensive documentation of specifications, manufacturing, test, and failure analysis processes. - Perform mechanical, magnetic, and electro-mechanical modeling to evaluate and optimize concepts and designs. Analyze static and dynamic structures to quantify fundamental device performance. - Generate concepts and solutions to optical system actuation related challenges. - Prototype, evaluate, debug innovative ideas, and generate new intellectual property.

Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical engineering, Electrical engineering, Physics, or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
  • Experience in actuator design, electric motor, or generator design

Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical engineering, Electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Strong fundamentals in actuation design
  • Experience performing mechanical FEA (Finite Element Analysis) using Ansys (or equivalent)
  • Experience performing magnetic FEA (Finite Element Analysis) using Ansys Maxwell (or equivalent)
  • Experience with 3D CAD, 2D drafting, GD&T, and tolerance analysis
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience of actuator design, electric motor, or generator design
