Description & Requirements

Maximus is seeking an experienced SME Systems Engineer to support a major digital modernization effort with the Department of Defense Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office. This role provides senior technical leadership in shaping and sustaining Advana, the Department's enterprise platform for data, analytics, and AI at scale. The Systems Engineer will drive enterprise design, requirements analysis, model-based systems engineering, and system integration across multiple enclaves and mission partners. This position is based in the National Capital Region with work performed at government sites.

This is an on-site position that requires an Active TS with SCI Eligibility along with a CI polygraph in the last 5 years

Job-Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Lead enterprise-level systems engineering for the Advana platform across IL2, IL5, IL6, and JWICS environments

- Develop component and sub-component system designs using MBSE methodologies and SysML-aligned artifacts

- Analyze and manage technical requirements, ensuring traceability across mission, platform, and customer use cases

- Define and assess system interfaces, human-system interactions, and operational workflows

- Support integration of government, commercial, and open-source technologies across the platform ecosystem

- Lead engineering prioritization, risk analysis, and technical decision-making across multi-stakeholder teams

- Develop and maintain system architecture documentation, configuration baselines, and engineering processes

- Support design, planning, and execution of verification, validation, and test events

- Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues requiring infrastructure, configuration, or code-level changes

- Contribute to cybersecurity engineering, RMF alignment, Zero Trust architecture, and system ATO documentation

Job-Specific Minimum Requirements:

- 10+ years of systems engineering experience, including in complex DoD or IC environments

- Active TS with SCI eligibility. CI polygraph within the last 5 years

- Active DoD 8140-compliant certification (Network+ or equivalent)

- Proven leadership experience on major technical programs or enterprise transformation efforts

Minimum Requirements

TCS089, T5, Band 8

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

- Experience supporting large-scale data platforms, distributed systems, or multi-domain architectures

- Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or on-prem CSPs), containerization, and orchestration

- Understanding of SRE principles, performance engineering, and observability frameworks

- Experience with Zero Trust components, RMF packages, and cybersecurity architecture

- Ability to translate complex technical issues for senior leaders, mission partners, and non-technical stakeholders

- Prior experience supporting AI/ML platforms, enterprise analytics ecosystems, or cross-domain solutions
- Demonstrated experience applying MBSE, SysML, or architecture modeling tools
