Technical Project Manager Fabric & Datalake Contract (Remote, US-Based)
Duration: 6-month contract with potential for extension
Location: Remote (US-Based; MST hours preferred)
Travel: Up to 10% for workshops or stakeholder sessions
Position Overview
We are seeking an accomplished Technical Project Manager (TPM) with deep experience
leading enterprise-scale data modernization and analytics programs within the Microsoft
ecosystem.
This role combines program leadership, technical delivery management, and architectural
oversight, driving end-to-end execution across Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, and data
governance initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a techno-functional leader someone who understands data
architecture, cloud engineering, and business strategy equally well. They can translate complex
requirements into actionable technical outcomes, manage distributed engineering teams, and
maintain alignment among executives, enterprise architects, and delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage large-scale programs encompassing Microsoft Fabric rollout, Azure
Data Lake modernization, and enterprise data governance initiatives from planning
through delivery.
Define and oversee project scope, timelines, milestones, dependencies, and quality
gates, ensuring alignment with business objectives and architectural standards.
Coordinate multiple workstreams across architecture, engineering, analytics, and
operations, maintaining progress transparency and accountability.
Develop and enforce program governance including RAID logs, decision registers,
change control, and executive reporting dashboards.
Collaborate with data architects and engineers to design and implement end-to-end
Microsoft Data Platform solutions covering ingestion, transformation, modeling, and
analytics.
Oversee implementation of Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Databricks,
Purview/Unity Catalog, and Power BI components to deliver scalable, governed, and
high-performing data ecosystems.
Drive CI/CD adoption, infrastructure-as-code deployment, and environment consistency
through Azure DevOps or GitHub pipelines.
Ensure compliance with enterprise security frameworks including RBAC, RLS/OLS,
sensitivity labeling, and data access governance.
Partner with business and data governance stakeholders to translate KPIs, reporting
goals, and analytics requirements into well-architected, scalable data solutions.
Facilitate discovery and design workshops to define measurable outcomes, clarify
dependencies, and build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups.
Communicate effectively with executive sponsors, translating complex technical
progress into clear business impact narratives.
Manage stakeholder expectations, resolve delivery conflicts, and proactively identify
risks and mitigation strategies.
Validate and approve all project deliverables, ensuring documentation, architecture
decision records (ADRs), runbooks, and playbooks are complete and accurate.
Coordinate production cutovers, post-launch support, and operational readiness to
ensure smooth transition and long-term sustainability.
Mentor and support cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and
continuous improvement in delivery practices.
Maintain focus on outcomes driving measurable improvements in data accessibility,
governance, performance, and business value realization.
Qualifications
8+ years of progressive experience managing enterprise data, analytics, or
modernization programs.
Proven success as a Technical Project Manager, Delivery Lead, or Solution
Architect in Azure or Microsoft-based ecosystems.
Strong expertise in:
Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Databricks, Power BI, Azure
Synapse, and related data platform tools.
Data architecture and modeling for data lakes, lakehouses, and semantic
models.
Governance frameworks using Microsoft Purview or Unity Catalog.
Security design (RBAC, RLS/OLS, Entra ID, sensitivity labeling) and
compliance alignment.
CI/CD automation, DevOps practices, and infrastructure-as-code in Azure
DevOps or GitHub.
Demonstrated ability to manage hybrid onshore/offshore teams in a complex enterprise
environment.
Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage both
executive and technical audiences.
Strong problem-solving, prioritization, and stakeholder management skills with a focus
on clarity and delivery excellence.
Preferred:
Experience leading AI/ML analytics or predictive modeling pilots within enterprise
programs.
Familiarity with Fabric-based architectures, ADR documentation, C4 modeling, and agile
delivery frameworks.
PMP, PMI-ACP, or Microsoft Certified (Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Data
Engineer Associate) preferred.
