Mainframe Developer
Location: Buffalo, NY Hybrid
Duration: 6+ months
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mainframe Developer to join our team to support and enhance our ACH (Automated Clearing House) mainframe application. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and CICS to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of our batch processes. You will be responsible for coding, debugging, and providing support for production changes while ensuring the smooth processing of ACH transactions in a fast-paced and critical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications for the ACH system. Write and modify COBOL code, update JCL scripts, and support the integration of new features to meet business requirements.
- Provide on-call and scheduled production support for ACH-related issues. Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production problems in a timely manner to ensure minimal disruption to the business.
- Leverage strong batch programming skills to create, manage, and optimize JCL scripts for processing ACH transactions. Ensure that batch jobs are optimized for efficiency and reliability.
- Work with DB2 (v12) for database querying, data manipulation, and storage management. Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and work with VSAM for data retrieval and storage.
- Continuously identify areas for process improvements, performance optimization, and system enhancements. Ensure that the ACH system is running optimally with minimum downtime.
- Conduct thorough testing of new and modified programs. Perform detailed debugging to ensure that all system processes are functioning as expected.
Skills & Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience as a Mainframe Developer working with COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and CICS in a large enterprise environment.
- Proficient in COBOL programming, JCL scripting, and working with VSAM files. Strong knowledge of CICS for transaction processing and DB2 (v12) for database management.
- Extensive experience in designing and maintaining batch jobs and job scheduling within an ACH or similar high-volume environment.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues quickly.
