Job Title: Project Manager 4 (773436)

Location: Richmond, VA Hybrid (4 days onsite, 1 day telework per week)
Interview: Web and In-Person (in-person at manager s discretion; travel expenses reimbursed)

Overview

A leading public sector organization is seeking a seasoned IT Project Manager to oversee high-risk, strategic portfolio projects. This role centers around risk management, program assurance, mentoring, and project delivery, with an emphasis on improving practices across local government agencies. Work will be conducted onsite at offices in Richmond, VA, and other agency locations in the area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple high-risk projects from initiation through closeout, ensuring timely and on-budget delivery
  • Perform program assurance and provide advisory support for a portfolio of high-visibility projects
  • Support the development of a Project Management Center of Excellence, including mission charter work and needs assessments
  • Create and deliver high-risk project training materials, risk management reports, and dashboard tools
  • Mentor project teams and manage project risks as required
  • Oversee daily project activities, including task assignments, progress and budget tracking, and issue resolution
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks or delays, and help implement mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, including government entities and third-party suppliers

Required Qualifications

  • Senior experience in portfolio management (5+ years)
  • Project management experience of individual projects valued at over $10 million (5+ years)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project or other commercial project management tools (5+ years)
  • Active PMP certification required (must be provided at application)
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record of delivering complex, high-risk IT projects in the public sector
  • Ability to travel to locations in the Richmond area (expenses reimbursed)
