What you will do
Johnson Controls is seeking an entry level Materials Engineer who are hands-on problem solvers, self-motivated, who consistently take the initiative to get things done with good analytical skills and an eye for detail to work in the Global Materials and Process Lab located in Milwaukee, WI. Candidates should be familiar with conducting rudimentary failure analyses on components and products and provide reports and documentation suitable for litigation if required. They should also be able to conduct testing and analysis on polymers and composites (desirable).
You will interact with design, ISC Production, suppliers, and other support functions to provide materials and process support. Duties include conducting failure analysis, performing materials analysis and testing, assisting with quality audits and issues as they relate to materials and products, helping to trouble shoot and develop new processes and making recommendations regarding specifications of materials. This position is onsite based in Glendale, WI. Candidates should be commuting distance to the facility, or able to relocate.

How you will do it
- Use a data science approach with materials science principles to develop and execute design of experiments
- Use practical experience with special process suppliers to readily understand their challenges, articulate robust guidance for solutions, and effectively relay supplier experience to Engineering for improved manufacturability
- Ability to analyze, test and help recommend materials for JCI products
- Ability to perform Root Cause failure analysis, critically review data related to raw materials and drive decision making within a cross-functional team
What you will need
Required
- Bachelor's in Materials Science and Engineering or Metallurgy
- Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys
- Experience in metallography, image analysis, mechanical testing, and SEM/EDS analysis
- Ability to analyze, test and help recommend materials
- Experience with data science and digital proficiency
- Up to 10% travel
Preferred
- Knowledge of brazing, welding and corrosion analysis
- Background in chemistry and/or experience in thermal analysis
- Some familiarity with processes as they relate to joining, forming, cutting, etc.
