Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Structural Engineer to take control of their career potential in our Chicago office. This position will partner with a multi-discipline team to develop designs of electrical substations to support the safe and reliable delivery of electricity across the United States and Canada. Opportunities may include, but not limited to:
  • Thinking creatively to address the complex challenges faced by the largest utilities in North America.
  • Performing rigid bus analysis and the design of electrical substation steel structures, equipment foundations, structure foundations and secondary oil containment.
  • Providing support for our clients during construction.
  • Performing field inspections and compliance documentation.
  • Leading a team of single- or multi-discipline professionals to ensure project success.
  • Presenting designs and proposals to clients, permitting authorities, public interest groups, etc.
  • Corresponding and/or meeting with clients, contractors, and vendors.
  • Participating in project proposal efforts.
  • Advancing into leadership roles.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program. and 3 years of structural engineering experience required or
  • Bachelor's degree Bachelor of Science in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. and 3 years of structural engineering experience required
  • Master Degree of Science degree in Structural Engineering and 2 years of structural engineering experience required
  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong computer skills include structural analysis programs (e.g., RISA 3D), AutoCAD, ETABS, SAFE and BIM (e.g., Revit and Tekla).
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Engineers in Training-EIT Certification Preferred
