Principal Software Engineer
Location: Sunnyvale, CA
The Juniper SRX engineering team focuses on developing and implementing scalable, distributed, and AI-driven solutions. A Principal Engineer in this team would be a senior-level individual contributor. In this role, Principal Engineer will lead architectural design, development, optimization, and lifecycle management of secure, scalable and high performance solutions. The Principal engineer will also mentor engineering teams and drive innovation. This role is crucial in creating innovative solutions for complex architectural challenges related to Firewall, security and intelligent path routing within Juniper's AI-Native Network framework and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Basic Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
Significant experience (15+ years) in developing large-scale software systems.
5+ Years in Lead/Principal role. Deep hands on knowledge of next generation Firewalls and strong experience with SDWAN architectures and platforms.

Minimum Salary: $231,200.00
Maximum Salary:$332,350.00
The pay range for this position is expected to be between $231,200.00 and $332,350.00/year; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes medical benefits, 401(k) eligibility, vacation, sick time, and parental leave. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
Juniper's pay range data is provided in accordance with local state pay transparency regulations. Juniper may post different minimum wage ranges for permanent residency petitions pursuant to US Department of Labor requirements.

- Lead Technical Design and Development: Guide and participate in the Architecture, design and development of large-scale network security Firewall and distributed SD-WAN applications.
- Innovate and Problem-Solve: Develop inventive solutions for architectural complexities like intelligent path routing and solve complex customer networking problems.
- Improve Product Efficiency and Scalability: Identify and enhance the efficiency, scalability, and operability of SRX Firewall products including physical, virtual and containerized platforms.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with product managers, designers, and other teams to deliver solutions and ensure product success.
- Code Review and Guidance: Lead and participate in design and code reviews, providing technical guidance to other engineers.
- Own Solutions End-to-End: Drive the design, development, and deployment process for specific solutions.
- Communication: Effectively communicate technical information, issues, and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

- Knowledge of TCP/IP, MPLS, BGP, BGP-PEERING, OSPF, L2VPN, L3VPN, QoS, IPv6, IPSEC, GRE, Network security, Firewall, NAT, SD-WAN concepts.
- Proficiency in languages like C, C++, Python, Go and its ecosystem.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical and technical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with Linux operating systems.
- Familiarity with Agile development processes.
- Experience with Test-Driven Development and Continuous Integration.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teams and influence their technological direction with a combination of hands-on work and technical leadership.
