Job Summary:
The Communications Technician I is an entry-level role for individuals looking to build a career in the structured cabling and low-voltage industry. This position involves hands-on work in a construction environment, supporting the installation and maintenance of communication systems within a large data center environment. Candidates must be safety-focused, dependable, and willing to work in varying conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Install work area outlets in floor, wall, and modular furniture environments
  • Route and suspend cable using fish tape, J-hooks, cable trays, and other supports
  • Build and install telecom closets including racks, patch panels, and grounding
  • Perform fire-stopping procedures and pull cable through sleeves and core penetrations
  • Terminate low-voltage devices and label cables accurately
  • Complete all required documentation (timesheets, work orders, material transfers, etc.)
  • Adhere to all safety and quality standards set by the company and client
  • Work at heights up to 12 feet and in confined spaces as needed

Work Schedule:
  • Shift: First shift (core business hours)
  • Overtime: Regularly available
  • Weekends: Rare, but possible depending on project needs

Required PPE & Tools:
  • Boots: Safety-toed, over-the-ankle, lace-up boots (purchased by the technician)
  • Tools: Basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, snips, tape measure, etc.
  • Other PPE: Provided as needed by the site

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 0-1 year of experience in telecommunications or a related field
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to read blueprints and follow technical instructions

Physical Requirements:
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs
  • Work in both hot and cold weather conditions (site-controlled for safety)
  • Distinguish colors, read small print, and recognize audible signals

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
