Mechanical Design Engineer, Design & Styling

As a Mechanical Design Engineer at Tesla, you will be responsible for designing and building prototype models to support vehicle occupant packaging and ergonomics development. These could range from individual components to complete vehicle interior mockups. Our goal is to create and validate the customer experience long before first prototypes are made. We work fast and efficiently under tight timelines while retaining quality and accuracy. The role will require a high level of collaboration with the design, engineering, and fabrication teams.
The ability to fit into small and highly motivated multi-functional teams is essential. The role offers a rare opportunity to participate in the development of new and genuinely cutting-edge vehicles, so enthusiasm for and knowledge of vehicles is advantageous. You must have a genuine passion for engineering the best electric vehicles in the world.

Responsibilities

• Using 3DExperience and CATIA, create vehicle experience mockups to represent new vehicle design concepts
• Design components to be fabricated using a variety of methods such as 3D printing, water jet, CNC milling, laser cutting, and hand fabrication
• Communicate with other engineers to build properties that allow the desired attributes to be evaluated effectively
• Manage and oversee the fabrication and assembly of components and vehicle models
• Design and hand assembly of wood and metal structures through the use of a variety of cutting and drilling tools
• Perform assessments of ergonomic criteria against styling and engineering proposals

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR related field or the equivalent experience
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on fabrication/model-making/woodworking experience
• You must have a "maker" mindset - willing to design and build to solve problems
• You must have experience with CATIA, 3DExperience, or equivalent 3D modeling software including; 3D Part design, surfacing (Generative Shape Design), managing large data assemblies (Assembly Design), processing 3D scan data and bringing functional parts to life with Kinematics (Preferred)

Expected Compensation
$88,084 - $196,194/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefitsPay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
