APM / Performance SME – Healthcare Application Reliability & Performance

Employment Type: W2 Only (No C2C)
Location: Remote

We are seeking an APM / Performance Subject Matter Expert to oversee application performance and reliability across 40+ healthcare systems, including patient-facing portals, clinical applications, and revenue-cycle platforms. You will define APM standards, establish baselines, implement synthetic monitoring, and drive end-to-end performance tuning for mission-critical workflows with strict latency and availability requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the APM strategy, standards, and governance framework for all healthcare applications (key transactions, thresholds, KPIs, metrics).
  • Configure, optimize, and operationalize enterprise APM tools to capture deep performance telemetry, service maps, and dependency insights.
  • Establish baseline performance profiles and lead performance testing, tuning, and benchmarking for priority workflows.
  • Contribute performance KPIs to SRE scorecards and the Central Golden Dashboard, including reliability scores, MTTx metrics, and error budget impacts.
  • Collaborate with application, database, infrastructure, and SRE teams to diagnose bottlenecks and recommend actionable fixes.
  • Provide expert-level insights on system behavior under load, capacity limits, and degradation patterns.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in APM, Performance Engineering, Application Reliability, or similar roles.
  • Hands-on expertise with at least one enterprise APM platform: Dynatrace, AppDynamics, New Relic, or Datadog.
  • Strong understanding of web architectures, APIs, distributed systems, and microservices.
  • Practical experience with performance and load testing tools (JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling, etc.).
  • Ability to interpret complex telemetry and APM data to produce clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Solid knowledge of MTTx metrics, SLAs/SLOs, and core reliability engineering concepts.

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Experience with healthcare applications (EHR, clinical systems, payer platforms, patient portals).
  • Strong SQL skills and experience collaborating with DBAs on database performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with SRE practices including error budgets, incident response, and postmortem analysis.
