Senior Cloud Security Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Security Engineer to join our team in Columbia, SC. This role will focus on designing, deploying, and managing secure, scalable cloud infrastructure in AWS or Azure, with a strong emphasis on cloud security, automation, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in cloud security engineering, firewall configuration, and working with public sector clients.

Job Title: Senior Cloud Security Engineer

Duration: 12+ Months Contract

Location: Columbia, SC (Hybrid 2 Days Onsite, 3 Days Remote)

Responsibilities:

• Design and deploy highly available, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure and applications in AWS or Azure environments.
• Develop and implement cloud security automation and accelerators to improve operational efficiency and consistency.
• Collaborate with Security Operations teams to design, deploy, and maintain SIEM, SOAR, and XDR technologies.
• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve configuration issues across development, test, and production environments.
• Ensure compliance with key security frameworks (e.g., NIST, HIPAA, SOX, PCI, CMMC, PII, CUI) by building effective monitoring, logging, and auditing solutions.
• Design and implement Zero Trust architectures in cloud environments.
• Document security tools, deployment configurations, incident reports, and other technical artifacts.
• Engage with state and local government clients, ensuring security best practices are tailored to public sector requirements.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for client engagements.

Required Qualifications:

• 5 10 years of experience in Information Security and Engineering
• 5+ years of experience designing and maintaining infrastructure in AWS or Azure, including cloud-based firewalls
• 5+ years of hands-on experience deploying, configuring, and maintaining Palo Alto VM-Series Firewalls in cloud environments
• Strong knowledge of cloud security design, operations, and automation
• Must hold a current AWS or Azure certification (e.g., AWS Security Specialty, Azure Security Engineer Associate)
• Demonstrated experience with documentation of security tools, deployment configurations, and incident handling

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):

• Experience working with state and local government agencies
• Familiarity with cloud-native security tools and DevSecOps practices
• Background in infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates
