SAIC offers exciting and challenging opportunities to support NASA's present and future human spaceflight programs at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas under the Safety and Mission Assurance Engineering (SMAEC II) Contract. This is an exciting time to be making history with the NASA SMA team assuring continuous human presence on the International Space Station and returning humans to the Moon and then to Mars safely. You will work in a collaborative environment comprised of NASA engineers, Mission Control personnel and astronauts. You will apply design and operations knowledge and expertise in various areas of SMA such as system safety, reliability, quality engineering and assurance, software, probabilistic risk assessment, and others.

BS degree in Engineering or related Science/Technical field (Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred) and 15 years of experience; a Masters and 12 years of experience; or a PhD and 9 years of experience.

Job Duties:
- Conducting system and sub-system hazard analysis on behalf of/in concert with the Provider
- Assisting with development of International Safety Review Panel (ISRP)-acceptable methodologies of verification of hazard controls
- Developing safety products for submittal to the ISRP
- Uploading/Inputting safety products to ISS Hazard System
- Participating in ISRP Reviews and working groups
- Providing hazard analysis training and mentorship to develop in-house systems safety engineering capabilities
- Assisting in tailoring requirements applicable to end item hardware/software
Qualifications
Required Education:
BS degree in Engineering or related Science/Technical field (Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred) and 15 years of experience; a Masters and 12 years of experience; or a PhD and 9 years of experience.
Required Skills:
- NASA system flight safety review process experience.
- Experience with direct participation in conducting and documenting space system safety review.
- Familiarity with the NASA organization and with the International Space Station (ISS) subsystems and components.
- An understanding of system safety hazards analysis process.
- An understanding of NASA Handbook 51721.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to develop excellent working relationships with customers, peers, and management.
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite of Tools to prepare reports, presentations, and charts.
- Knowledge and use of personal computer with typical business software.
