Position Summary:
The Solution Architect II is a key member of the architecture team, responsible for providing strategic guidance, technical designs, and proof-of-concept (POC) development to support software development teams. Operating one sprint ahead of development teams, the Solution Architect II ensures alignment between business requirements, architectural plans, and technical deliverables. This role involves close collaboration with the Product Team, developers, and customers to define scope, mitigate risks, and validate deliverables, with a focus on long-term architectural planning and hardware/component design.
The Solution Architect II is a key member of the architecture team, responsible for providing strategic guidance, technical designs, and proof-of-concept (POC) development to support software development teams. Operating one sprint ahead of development teams, the Solution Architect II ensures alignment between business requirements, architectural plans, and technical deliverables. This role involves close collaboration with the Product Team, developers, and customers to define scope, mitigate risks, and validate deliverables, with a focus on long-term architectural planning and hardware/component design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Story and Task Management: Collaborate with the Product Team to refine Jira stories and subtasks, defining scope, identifying blockers, and detailing deliverables to ensure clarity for development teams.
- Proof-of-Concept Development: Design and develop POC code to validate technical concepts, uncover architectural risks, and address gaps in project understanding, with a focus on solutions impacting 2-3 sprints or beyond.
- Architectural Design and Documentation: Create and maintain detailed architectural designs and documentation outlining technical strategies and plans that influence customers, the Product Team, and developers.
- Design and Deliverable Validation: Review and validate developer designs, sprint deliverables, and milestone outputs to ensure alignment with architectural standards and project goals.
- Hardware and Component Design: Lead the creation of comprehensive hardware and component designs, including Bills of Materials (BOM), to scope large-scale efforts (e.g., projects similar to Abbvie).
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Participate in daily developer collaboration sessions to provide architectural guidance.
- Attend architecture team meetings (3x per week per engagement, up to 6 meetings for multiple projects).
- Engage in variable customer-facing meetings to present and discuss architectural strategies.
- Contribute to sprint retrospectives, backlog refinement, and sprint planning sessions (every two weeks).
- Lead or participate in ad-hoc architecture collaboration sessions to address specific issues or design challenges.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in a solution architecture or similar role, with a focus on software and hardware design.
- Proven ability to develop POCs and validate technical concepts.
- Experience working in Agile environments, particularly with Jira and sprint-based workflows.
- Skills:
- Strong proficiency in architectural design, documentation, and validation processes.
- Expertise in hardware/component design and scoping large-scale technical efforts.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work with cross-functional teams and customers.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Certifications (Preferred): AWS Certified Solutions Architect, TOGAF, or similar certifications.
Work Environment and Expectations:
- The Solution Architect II will adhere to a collaborative work schedule of 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM PT, with accommodations for personal commitments as agreed upon (e.g., family obligations on Fridays).
- The role requires flexibility to support multiple engagements, balancing customer-facing responsibilities with internal team collaboration.
- The position may involve variable ad-hoc meetings to address specific architectural challenges.
