Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team in a long-term capacity. The ideal candidate will support both Sybase and SQL Server environments, with a strong focus on troubleshooting, change control, and production support. While the role begins as a contractor, we are open to transitioning the right candidate to full-time employment if desired.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on support for Sybase ASE 15.7 databases running on Solaris in an X86 hardware environment.
- Assist with SQL Server administration across mixed Windows Server versions, including environments hosted in Azure.
- Participate in formal change control processes and ensure compliance with established procedures.
- Support weekly data fixes and after-hours implementation tasks in coordination with senior DBAs.
- Contribute to ongoing migration efforts from Sybase to SQL Server.
- Develop and manage CRON jobs and command-line scripts in Unix environments.
- Collaborate on cluster management and disaster recovery planning across development, test, and production environments.
- Participate in on-call rotation (Saturday morning to Monday morning) after an initial onboarding period.
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience with Sybase ASE 15.7 in Unix/Solaris environments.
- Solid understanding of SQL Server administration and Windows Server operations.
- Familiarity with formal change control environments and procedures.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid team setting.
- Experience with CRON job development and Unix command-line operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with database migration from Sybase to SQL Server.
- Exposure to Azure-hosted SQL Server environments.
- Familiarity with clustering and disaster recovery strategies.
