Role: Market Risk Analyst - Associate
Location: NY - hybrid on site 4 days a week
Employment type: Contract

Deliverables/Responsibilities:
The role is in the Market Risk Control team and accountable for the core risk management responsibilities related to the US Prime Services
business in a large financial services client of ours. It will be focusing on the effective and efficient mitigation of counterparty market/credit risk of Prime Brokerage clients.
Requirements
  • Assist with the oversight of the margin and risk processes to ensure the firm's credit risk is aligned with the firm's risk policies
  • Utilize strong excel or programming skills to help facilitate testing across multiple risk projects or analysis.
  • Assist with the resolution of margin and risk issues
  • Monitor client portfolios and execute sound judgment to day-to-day risk management situations requiring escalation with recommendations on risk mitigation
  • Apply best practice risk management operating procedures and controls
  • Provide analysis for the design of risk management policies and the implementation of the risk infrastructure of this business
  • Collaborate with the Operations, Market and Credit Risk, Legal, Front Office, Technology and Project teams
  • Prepare risk dashboards and analysis to use during internal risk discussions with management or external regulators on a regular basis
  • Seek opportunities to increase operational efficiency and lower operational risk, recommend process reengineering with proper controls
  • Execute proactive risk management by assessing the impact of market risk events on exposures

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with good understanding of market risk, margin, or collateral risk.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel, Python, and SQL
  • Preference for someone with some working knowledge of the Prime Broker Business but not required
  • Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and work in a fast paced high-performing culture with time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Product knowledge of equity, fixed income, and derivatives and have capital markets experience.
  • Attention to detail and a good understanding of security data, margin rules, client data, market data in addition to trade valuation data.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and analytical skills.
  • Team oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior working experience participating in large change initiatives impacting multiple stakeholders and processes will be valuable.
  • Undergraduate degree in a quantitative field (Finance, Business, Economic, Math etc.), CFA / FRM or other recognized designation is an asset.

About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Market Risk Analyst to join the Market Risk Control team within the
Securities Group. This team provides market risk oversight for the U.S. Prime Services business, a rapidly growing area of the firm that provides financing to hedge funds. The role involves supporting risk infrastructure initiatives, implementing risk policies, and ensuring compliance with the
firm's risk appetite. You will work on a variety of projects, including margin engine enhancements, stress testing, swaps, and automation initiatives, while also handling BAU production tasks such as risk monitoring, testing, and reporting. This is an open-ended, hands-on role that combines elements of risk analysis, business analysis, and project support.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide market risk oversight for the U.S. Prime Brokerage business, including margin, stress testing, and swaps.
  • Assist in writing and implementing risk policies aligned with the firm's risk appetite.
  • Support risk infrastructure development and ensure operational guidelines are followed.
  • Perform UAT testing for margin calculators and other risk systems; reconcile differences between systems.
  • Conduct risk monitoring and daily operations, including margin calculations and concentration analysis.
  • Automate manual processes and download/organize large datasets for analysis.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across risk, technology, and operations teams to deliver projects.
  • Pull and analyze market data from Bloomberg or similar platforms.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in Market Risk, Counterparty Risk, or Prime Brokerage Risk.
  • Strong understanding of derivatives, securities, risk pricing, VaR, and stress testing.
  • Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables).
  • Proficiency in Python (basic scripting for data manipulation) and SQL (handling large datasets).
  • Ability to perform basic margin calculations and interpret risk policies.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg or similar tools for market data retrieval.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Education in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field (CFA/FRM a plus, but not required).

Nice to Have
  • Experience in Prime Brokerage, Hedge Funds, or large banking environments.
  • Exposure to risk infrastructure projects and automation initiatives.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $70.00/hr.
