Firmware Test Technician

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly analytical and technically skilled technician to join our team, specializing in hardware troubleshooting and debugging in a data center environment. This role focuses strictly on hardware and firmware issues and will involve no software-level debugging. The ideal candidate will have experience building computers from the ground up and will possess a strong understanding of Linux, particularly its command-line interface, for identifying and resolving hardware-related test failures.

Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and troubleshoot computer hardware issues in server racks and standalone systems.
• Analyze hardware test results and identify root causes of failures using diagnostic tools and Linux-based logs.
• Work closely with testing systems that validate hardware functionality at startup (firmware-level tests).
• Use Linux command-line tools to access logs, review test outputs, and troubleshoot underlying hardware issues.
• Assemble and configure computer systems using a variety of components (CPUs, motherboards, RAM, etc.).
• Ensure systems meet operational standards and pass all required hardware tests before deployment.

Required Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience building and assembling computers.
• Strong understanding of PC/server hardware, including components like CPU, RAM, motherboard, storage devices, etc.
• Experience troubleshooting and debugging hardware issues, including those identified through automated test results.
• Familiarity with computer firmware and startup diagnostics (e.g., POST, BIOS/UEFI-level hardware checks).

• Proficiency with Linux, especially using the terminal/CLI for diagnostics, log analysis, and issue resolution.
• Ability to read and interpret test logs and isolate hardware-related problems.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience working in data center or high-performance computing environments.
• Understanding of server rack hardware layout and maintenance.
• Familiarity with common hardware diagnostic tools and scripts used in Linux environments.

Pay and Benefits:

• Pay: $48/hour
• Guaranteed Overtime Each Week paid at time and a half
• Access to a full suite of benefits
• Paid travel expenses to and from job sites
• Paid lodging (Single-Occupancy Hotel Room)
• Per diem ($45/day)
• Flexibility to take time off between assignments
• Ability to perform tasks with little to no supervision
• Ability to travel and commit to assignments ranging from 3 months to 1 year
• Ability to work 2nd and 3rd shifts, including overtime for the duration of the assignment (50+ hours/week)
• Must meet drug test requirements
