Our client is an American technology, communications, and security company focused on mission-critical communications. We have an opening for a mid-level RF Communications Field Technician
Location: 36th Street Long Island City, NY 11101 (New York City (5 Boroughs)) - 100% Onsite
Contract Duration: Contract-to-Hire (6 Months)
Work Schedule: M-F, 8 AM - 4:30 PM + 10% On-Call Rotation (On call hours are 4:30p - 8a)
Drug Test: Full panel required (Safety-Sensitive Role)
Training Duration: 3 weeks before independent work
Interview: 1-hour onsite interview
Position Overview
This role supports mission-critical public safety communications systems, focusing on diagnosing and resolving RF interference and wireless communication issues. The technician will work directly with customers across NYC to maintain, optimize, and troubleshoot LMR, LTE, GPS, and other wireless systems vital to emergency response operations.
What You Will Be Doing
Diagnose and resolve RF interference and wireless communication disruptions.
Perform field installation, maintenance, and service of RF and IT network equipment.
Troubleshoot radio/cellular coverage issues and base station/repeater connectivity.
Identify and mitigate illegal jamming and other interference sources.
Provide technical guidance to public safety agencies on RF interference response.
Maintain and optimize RF and broadband systems, including software-driven electronics.
Perform server hardware/software maintenance and network troubleshooting.
Use diagnostic tools (e.g., spectrum analyzers, watt meters, FDRs) for system testing.
Document maintenance activities and provide weekly performance reports.
Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, and Project Management teams.
Required Skills & Experience
Associate degree In an IT related Field and 3-7 years of experience in RF communications, wireless systems, or related fields.
Strong understanding of RF interference, LMR, LTE, GPS, and wireless technologies.
Proficiency in computer networking (LAN/WAN, routers, switches, firewalls).
Hands-on experience with Motorola communications systems and diagnostic tools.
Electronics training (2 years technical trade/military school) + 2 years field experience.
Strong communication, self-management, and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and respond to after-hours service calls.
Preferred Skills
Experience with P25 systems and Motorola two-way radios.
Familiarity with analog Motorola equipment and legacy LMR systems.
Background in wired/wireless communication systems (public safety or commercial).
Knowledge of public safety operations and emergency communication protocols.
Travel and Vehicle Usage
