Job Summary

The Data Conversion Lead is a technical role focused on migrating data from legacy HR systems into Workday. This consultant will own the data conversion strategy and execution for the project, working in tandem with the system integrator's data conversion or integration lead. The role involves coordinating between client data owners and the project team to ensure accurate extraction, cleansing, and loading of employee, benefits, compensation, and related data. The Data Conversion Lead oversees multiple cycles of data load/testing and the final cutover load.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and manage the data conversion workstream for the Workday implementation, including overall strategy and timing of data loads.
  • Partner with client IT and HR teams to extract data from legacy systems, resolve data quality issues, and prepare data in required formats.
  • Lead data mapping efforts, aligning legacy fields (e.g., job codes, pay components) with Workday data fields/objects.
  • Oversee preparation and loading of data into Workday using tools such as EIBs, iLoads, or CSV templates.
  • Coordinate multiple conversion cycles: prototype, system test, UAT, and final production cutover.
  • Direct validation activities, including reconciliations and spot checks, to confirm accuracy of migrated data.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve load errors or mismatches, identifying root causes and guiding corrections.
  • Maintain documentation of data mapping and transformation rules to ensure auditability.
  • Lead execution of the final data migration during cutover and verify successful transfer prior to go-live.

Required Qualifications & Skills
  • 5+ years of experience in data migration or integrations for HRIS implementations, with at least 3 years in Workday data conversion.
  • Strong knowledge of Workday data architecture and delivered tools (EIB, iLoads, CSV templates).
  • Experience mapping complex HR data from legacy systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, SAP, Oracle, etc.) into Workday.
  • Proven project management and coordination skills, including managing timelines and small teams.
  • High attention to detail and strong commitment to data quality, with experience establishing validation and reconciliation processes.
  • Ability to run and interpret reports or queries (Workday, Excel, Access, SQL) to resolve discrepancies.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to collaborate with technical teams and explain data issues to business stakeholders.
