World Wide Technology is looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer. This role is part of WWT s Strategic Resourcing services and is a contract role. The candidate will be supporting a WWT customer and will be employed by one of WWT s preferred partners. The partner will provide full compensation and benefit information prior to employment with the partner.

Rate/Salary: A reasonable estimate of the current pay range for this position is $70.00 to $80.00 hourly on W2 hourly. Actual pay will be based on a variety of factors, including shift, location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs, and will be set by your employer. The range for this position in other geographic locations may differ. Certain positions may also be eligible for variable incentive compensation, such as bonuses or commissions, that is not included in base pay.

Role Overview

The Senior Cloud Engineer will work collaboratively with our cloud engineering team to evaluate, design, and implement improvements for service reliability, fault tolerance, and observability. The primary objective is to enhance our production-grade platform, ensuring increased reliability, resilience, and security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess the current AWS infrastructure, specifically EKS and Istio service mesh architecture, to identify resilience gaps.
  • Optimize EKS and Istio configurations to strengthen reliability, bolster security, and improve traffic control.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure automation using Terraform for consistent, reliable, and repeatable AWS deployments.
  • Design, optimize, and manage CI/CD pipelines in GitLab to support secure, resilient, and automated application delivery.
  • Plan, implement, and manage Karpenter-based auto scaling for cost efficiency and enhanced resilience of Amazon EKS workloads.
  • Enhance EKS configuration to enable Auto mode, simplifying cluster operations.
  • Implement certificate management and automation processes to streamline rotation and minimize operational risk.
  • Configure Artifactory in a multi-node cluster to ensure high availability and resilience.
  • Configure and deploy AWS Resilience Hub to continuously validate the resilience posture of the platform.
  • Improve observability using AWS CloudWatch and Dynatrace for proactive monitoring and logging to detect and resolve reliability issues.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 8+ years experience in cloud infrastructure, with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in AWS/EKS.
  • Extensive knowledge of AWS infrastructure services, including Resilience Hub, Auto Scaling, Elastic Load Balancing (ALB/NLB), Route 53, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, S3, RDS, VPC endpoints, and other AWS services supporting Amazon EKS.
  • Deep expertise in Amazon EKS (architecture, scaling, security, Auto-mode, Karpenter).
  • Experience designing and managing GitOps deployments with Argo CD.
  • Proven proficiency with Istio Service Mesh (ingress, egress, traffic routing, mTLS, policies).
  • Strong understanding of resilience engineering concepts (high availability, disaster recovery, fault tolerance).
  • Proficient in Infrastructure-as-Code, particularly Terraform.
  • Knowledgeable about monitoring and observability stacks, especially Dynatrace.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD implementation using GitLab.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in regulated industries (banking, finance, insurance).
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional or equivalent certification.
  • Kubernetes Certified Administrator (CKA) or Service Mesh certifications.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams.
