We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Mainframe z/OS Consultant to lead critical enterprise projects, focusing on system upgrades, migrations, and performance optimization within our complex z/OS environment. This senior role requires deep technical mastery combined with a consultancy mindset to drive operational excellence, improve service reliability, and strategically manage our Mainframe infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Upgrades & Migrations (Project Leadership): Strategically plan, lead, and execute major z/OS operating system upgrades (to v2.4, v2.5, v3.1, or later) and key vendor software/tool upgrades.
Specific focus on upgrading and optimizing tools such as: Omegamon Suite, IBM TWS (Workload Scheduler), IBM System Automation, and IBM Tivoli/Netview.
Capacity & Performance Management: Drive the capacity planning, performance tuning, and optimization of Mainframe LPARs and MIPS utilization to ensure cost efficiency and service level agreement (SLA) adherence.
Mainframe Infrastructure Design: Provide senior-level consultation and hands-on experience in the design, planning, and execution of Mainframe datacenter migrations and overall system architecture enhancements.
System Configuration & Support: Install, configure, and maintain complex z/OS LPARs, ensuring high availability and robust system integrity. Manage remote administration tasks for MIPS/LPARs.
Backup & Recovery Expertise: Lead the strategy and execution of Mainframe data backup to tape and restoration procedures, ensuring data integrity and rapid recovery capabilities.
Operational Excellence & Vendor Management: Serve as a technical escalation point for critical Incidents and Service Requests. Collaborate strategically with vendor partners to manage SLAs, improve operational reporting, and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Required Skills & Expertise
Experience: 10−15 years of overall experience in Mainframe systems programming, administration, or consulting.
z/OS Upgrades: Mandatory senior-level experience in planning and executing at least two major z/OS version upgrades (e.g., v2.4, v2.5, v3.1).
Tool Upgrade Expertise: Proven experience with the installation, configuration, and upgrade of two or more critical Mainframe software suites: Omegamon, IBM TWS/Workload Scheduler, IBM System Automation, or Tivoli/Netview.
Mainframe Operations: Deep knowledge and hands-on experience supporting a highly complex, enterprise-level z/OS environment, including LPAR/MIPS management.
Data Center & Migration: Strong practical experience or consulting knowledge related to Mainframe datacenter migration and disaster recovery design principles.
Technical Proficiency: Expert knowledge of Mainframe backup and restore procedures, capacity and performance management techniques, and remote MIPS/LPAR administration.
