Job Title: Web Administrator / Technical Writer

Location: Anderson, SC

Duration: Full time

Job Summary: The Web Administrator is responsible for the development, management, and maintenance of web-based systems and content that support the Division's operations. This role ensures that the Division's websites and web applications are user-friendly, secure, and aligned with institutional and research-specific goals. Additionally, the Web Administrator will lead technical writing efforts, including creating and maintaining system documentation, user guides, and process diagrams to ensure clarity and consistency across the Division. The role collaborates with internal stakeholders to optimize web solutions, enhance user experiences, and support research initiatives. Other duties as assigned.

Job Duties:
  • Web Development and Maintenance:
    • Design, develop, and maintain the Division's websites and web applications, ensuring they are visually appealing, functional, and accessible.
    • Implement responsive design techniques to ensure compatibility across devices and browsers.
    • Manage content updates, ensuring information is accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with Division priorities.
    • Monitor and optimize website performance, including page load times and overall functionality.
    • % of Time: 30%

  • System Integration and Security:
    • Collaborate with IT and database teams to integrate web systems with internal platforms such as InfoEd and reporting tools.
    • Ensure compliance with institutional security policies and best practices, including regular updates and vulnerability assessments.
    • Manage access controls for web systems and ensure data integrity in collaboration with database and analytics teams.

  • User Experience and Design:
    • Work with stakeholders to gather requirements and design web interfaces that meet user needs and preferences.
    • Implement user-centered design principles to improve the accessibility and usability of web platforms.
    • Conduct regular usability testing and implement feedback to enhance the user experience.

  • Technical Writing and Documentation:
    • Create and maintain detailed documentation for web systems, processes, and configurations, including user manuals and administrator guides.
    • Develop process diagrams, workflows, and system architecture diagrams to support technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Document troubleshooting procedures, FAQs, and best practices for web-related issues.
    • Collaborate with team members to ensure documentation aligns with institutional standards and is regularly updated.

  • Collaboration and Training:
    • Partner with research units to develop web-based solutions tailored to their specific needs.
    • Provide training and documentation to staff on web systems, ensuring efficient usage and adoption.

    Minimum Requirements:
    • Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree in a related field.
    • Minimum Experience: Related experience with instruction, professional communications, and grantsmanship.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Preferred Education: Advanced degree in a related field.
    • Preferred Experience: Experience in web development, system integration, and technical writing.
    • Preferred Licenses & Certifications: Relevant certifications in web development or project management.

    Supervision, Budget, Fiscal, & Emergency Responsibilities:
    • Supervision: May act as a lead by guiding the work of others who perform essentially the same work.
    • Fiscal Responsibility: Responsible for monitoring the departmental budget and may manage fund allocation.
    • Emergency Response Level: Level 2 - Essential Support.
