Job Details

The Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), SENTRY modernization and Cloud Migration Services is modernizing its inmate management system. SENTRY is the Federal Bureau of Prison's (BOP) primary mission support database. The system collects, maintains, and tracks critical inmate information, including inmate location, medical history, behavior history, and release data. BOP is migrating SENTRY to the AWS cloud which is a critical element of BOP's modernization program to transition from the current mainframe COBOL environment to a modern Java-based SENTRY application in AWS GovCloud using the MSS mainframe modernization toolset.

This is a remote position.

Tasks and Responsibilities (not all inclusive):
  • The Database Administrator provides database administration to include but not limited to: database details, database tuning, database query performance analysis, database replication, database schema updates, database backups, database user management, and database reporting of an Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL databases.
  • The Database Administrator develops automations with Cloud Formation and Lambda to provide consistent and repeatable provisioning, deployments, replication, and reporting.
  • The Database Administrator works on administration of the Development, Training, and Production databases and supports application deployments that may or may not involve schema updates throughout the environments.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent experience.
  • Database Administrator with experience with PostgreSQL on AWS.
  • Experience with mission critical, complex environments, high availability and data security regulations for FISMA high environment.
  • Experience conducting database administration activities such as user account management, database maintenance, updates, data migration, data backups, data security, performance tuning, and upgrades as needed.
  • Experience with maintenance of data replication solutions.
  • Experience developing database automations and trusted language extensions.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining of security and integrity controls.
  • Collaborate with client technical staff, key partners, developers, product and program management.
  • Work in an Agile Environment and support multiple agile teams.
  • Manage and appropriately escalate data related, risks, issues, and challenges.
  • Address any issues related to database data, security and performance.
  • Skill in writing and editing documents at a professional level
  • Superior customer service skills and ability to professionally collaborate with peers and upper management.
  • Candidate will be required to obtain a Bureau of Prisons MBI or BI Security Clearance, which may take six (6) months or longer depending on candidate circumstances.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with AWS native tools, Relational Database Service (RDS), and Amazon Aurora Global Databases.
  • Experience developing and maintaining infrastructure as code using AWS Cloud Formation (CFN).
  • Experience developing and maintaining lambda functions written in Python.
  • Experience with mainframe modernization.
