Job Details

Qualified candidate will serve in a Lead Mechanical Engineer or support capacity coordinating and performing mechanical engineering activities.

HVAC focus - work may include but is not limited to heating and cooling load calculations, equipment sizing and selection (HVAC units, chillers, fans, dampers, etc.), piping and duct specifications, chilled water and ventilation layout drawings, HVAC details, generating bill of materials and scopes of work supporting procurement and subcontracts.

Piping focus - Work may include but is not limited to pipe stress analysis (AutoPipe), equipment sizing and selection (pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, valves, etc.), pipe support sizing and selection, P&IDs, piping isometrics and layout drawings, generating bill of materials and scopes of work supporting procurement and subcontracts.

Candidate will also support Field Engineering and Startup personnel during construction and startup troubleshooting and dispositioning Field Change Requests (FCR) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCR).

Responsibilities

  • May supervise assigned technical personnel, including assigning highly complex work, setting work priorities, and evaluating and training them.
  • Assists management in an acceptable implementation of design and consulting coordination.
  • Ensure documents, operating procedures etc. meet industry, company, and client standards.
  • Applies expertise in a specialized field of engineering or science to broadly stated technical problems.
  • Identifies and defines problems; plans and conducts research aimed at their solution. Conducts or leads special studies on new technologies, methods, and materials.
  • Carries out special or unique studies requiring unconventional or novel approaches or research techniques.
  • Uses all available guides and precedents and expands and develops where these contain critical gaps, are only partially related to the problem, or are largely lacking because of the novel character of the project.
  • Leads, as requested, in the formulation of advanced engineering/scientific concepts during proposal development and preliminary design phases and presents these to client management.
  • Conducts research, presents papers, and keeps abreast of technological developments in a specialty, keeping engineering management informed of important new advances.
  • Serves as consultant to project and specialty engineering/scientific groups, providing advice and counsel on assignments having special and unique features.
  • Supports preparation of and reviews discipline estimates, discipline work plans, budgets, and schedules.
  • Assists in the development and coordination of special educational and training programs for UCOR personnel and/or clients.
  • Participates in and fosters a work environment based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
  • Completes engineering assignments of advanced complexity.
  • Comprehensive understanding of a specific discipline and has basic understanding of other disciplines.
  • May provide technical guidance to a modest sized group of engineers, designers, and specialists.
  • Fully versed with the preparation and execution of project scope with specific discipline.
  • Fully versed in the methods of business development and able to lead the preparation of proposals.
  • Fully versed with codes, permits and company cornerstone applications.
  • Fully versed with and can check and review the work sequence, general content, and the methods used to generate specifications for the purchase of material, equipment, systems, services, or construction within a specific discipline
  • Fully versed with the process of preparing and checking of calculations as well as the approval, revision, retention, and storage of calculations with a specific discipline.
  • Able to learn and use basic CAD sketching tools.
  • Can oversee the review and checking of construction and vendor drawings.
  • Fully versed in the collection and/or evaluation of data and information regarding technical and economic factors including physical, chemical, environmental, maintenance, operational, regulatory, constructability, and/or schedule factors relating to a specific subject within a discipline
  • Understands the external factors that impact specific engineering problems.
  • Fully understands the use of requisitions and the role of materials management.
  • Reviews and advises on purchase orders and subcontracts.
  • Fully understands and reviews interdisciplinary vendor documents.
  • Leads or assists with the development of manpower, man-hour, and labor cost requirements for a project and can monitor it to aid in evaluating the budget.
  • Leads estimating tasks and performs material take-offs for a specific discipline.
  • Has advanced knowledge of discipline's material cost and of cost analysis and forecasting.
  • Fully understands and assists with the planning and scheduling of engineering tasks within a specific discipline.
  • Fully versed in the project change control process and can identify a potential change.
  • Has an advanced level of knowledge of discipline's equipment and material lists and has the ability to instruct others in understanding their use and requirements.
  • Maximizes the integration of all project functional requirements into a complete project plan
  • Maintains positive relationships among peers and management.
  • Builds positive relationships both internally and externally to engineering.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture or science or equivalent education, specific training, or experience in area of expertise, as approved by the pertinent Discipline Chief.
  • 15-17+ years of experience required.
  • Professional Engineer License preferred.
