Job Details

The Test Equipment Engineer will be part of the team responsible for designing and implementing test equipment and lab facilities for Vehicle Engineering. The Role will be focused on technical projects configuring test equipment, designing new lab spaces in the San Francisco Bay Area and other sites internationally.
This position will lead technical projects collaborating with cross-functional teams such as Test Execution, Test Equipment Design, vendors and design/construction teams to ensure successful project outcomes. The primary objective of this role is to oversee and establish all technical aspects of introducing new test equipment from initial planning to installation and operation and ultimately maintenance and service
The successful candidate for this position must have a broad background and a proven record of success in industrial equipment/facilities engineering as well as equipment deployment, maintenance and/or repair.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a requirement to establish effective working relationships within Tesla and with external suppliers. Responsibilities
  • Interface with Test Execution Teams to establish technical needs, timing and budget for new test equipment necessitated by current and future test programs
  • Translate above into technical requirements that will be shared with vendors and/or internal design teams. Work through technical details to establish the most effective and price conscious solution. Support cost and timing negotiations with multiple vendors as well as creating a business cases for Executive Approval
  • With knowledge of the planned new equipment, work with Tesla Infrastructure team to ensure all facilities requirements are understood and support facility construction efforts with technical guidance assuring facility infrastructure is suitable to receive equipment
  • Work with relevant vendors to ensure equipment is to specification, delivered, installed and operational/commissioned in a timely manner
  • Beyond the commissioning of equipment, develop total productive maintenance (TPM) schedules to ensure all equipment and facility infrastructure is serviced as required and thus to reduce unscheduled down time
  • Advise Equipment Maintenance as well as Facilities Operations teams to effectively repair and service equipment in all assigned lab locations
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced employees or interns in the area of Test Equipment/Facilities Engineering and Deployment

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience. Relevant coursework and work experience is essential
  • A minimum of 5 years of industry experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a test or industrial equipment related role
  • Must be able to show a breadth of equipment or facilities engineering experience, from concept through execution
  • Previous experience of project management - within a similar sector (automotive/industrial equipment/energy/construction/testing) preferred
  • Experience with and strong understanding of industrial or test equipment (e.g. hydraulic, pneumatic, electro-mechanical, environmental systems)
  • Experience in Design (MEP, Process, Structural, Architectural) of Industrial Facilities for such equipment
  • Fluent with Blue Prints, P&IDs and Schematics (architectural/electrical/mechanical/plumbing/hydraulic/pneumatic)
  • Understanding of facility and equipment permitting process preferred
  • Fluent with industry common CAD Software (e.g. AutoCAD, Bluebeam or other)

      $80,000 - $174,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
