Data Science Lead / Manager
- Will manage the team (potentially up to 4 DS resources)
- Looking at high level consumer portfolios, segmentation of users, discount profiles, RFM, Predictive modeling, "Open, click, subscribe" data
- Day to day:
- 50/50 - tech hands on support working with their tools VS managerial - working with business units and stakeholders to discuss their teams needs, work with LS partners, etc.
- This resource will need to be strong technically, but they have to feel confident in working with the business, talking through iniaitvies, use cases, etc.

The Data Science Manager will lead a team of talented data scientists, driving the development and deployment of advanced analytical solutions to solve complex business problems across various functions, including merchandising, marketing, supply chain, and e-commerce. This role requires a strong leader with deep technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to translate data insights into actionable strategies that impact business growth and efficiency. The manager will be instrumental in building out and nurturing a high-performing data science pod, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.

responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data scientists (including Data Science Level 2 Producers), providing technical guidance, career development, and performance feedback.
- Define and execute the data science roadmap in alignment with Levi's strategic objectives, identifying new opportunities for leveraging data to drive business value.
- Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of data science projects, from problem definition and data collection to model development, deployment, and monitoring.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., product management, engineering, business units) to understand their needs and translate them into data science solutions.
- Ensure the quality, accuracy, and interpretability of models and analyses.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and AI, evaluating and integrating new technologies and methodologies where appropriate.
- Champion data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables effectively.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of data science best practices, tools, and infrastructure.
qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related quantitative field. Ph.D. is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in data science, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or management role, leading data science teams.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R.
- Extensive experience with various machine learning techniques (e.g., supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning) and statistical modeling.
- Proficiency with SQL and experience working with large datasets in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure) and distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Spark).
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex analytical findings into clear, concise, and actionable business recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with A/B testing, experimental design, and causal inference.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with an ability to think strategically and execute tactically.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Experience in the retail or consumer goods industry is a significant plus.
