Who We Are:

With almost 70 years of experience as an independent research, development, and evaluation laboratory for fuels and lubricants, we are well qualified to tackle challenges affecting marine vessels and locomotives, trucks and automobiles, and even hand-held power tools.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Take over the management of multiple engine oil tests in SwRI's engine dynamometer test laboratory with very minimal upper management involvement.
  • Communicate on a daily basis the status of testing and testing results with our clients.
  • Develop project plans and procedures and communicate them effectively to the laboratory staff. Train laboratory staff as needed.
  • Forward thinking on how to continue our testing business as the requirements change with new engine types in the field and older tests become obsolete.
  • Write test reports, proposals and internal procedures.
  • Obtain leadership roles within ASTM forums that govern the standardized test types that are conducted.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple lubricant tests at the same time in the engine dynamometer facility with minimal supervision.
  • Take a lead position on coordinating with multiple service groups to provide the necessary support to keep tests running on a 24-hour basis. Mentor other employees.
  • Maintain and control the financials associated with running the tests that are your responsibility.
  • Keep track of the large amount of test parts that are needed to conduct the testing. Be forward thinking on securing test components to keep testing running into the future.
  • Establish a strong leadership position within the technical organizations that govern test procedures with goal of working into a chairmanship position within those organizations.
  • Travel to meetings as needed to represent SwRI. Author technical papers relative to your testing.
  • Perform analysis on data produced from testing to determine areas that need to be improved.
  • Prepare reports on the data analysis and take action on making improvements relative to the findings in the data.
  • Take a lead role in increasing the current market share for SwRI services to current and prospective customers.
  • This involves creating technical presentations and visiting customers to promote SwRI testing.

Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
  • 10+ years: Direct experience with running ASTM standardized engine lubricant testing.
  • Strong communication skills. Teamwork is essential for SwRI project leaders.
  • Must be willing to work part of the day hands-on in the laboratory with noise, heat, oil fuel and humidity. The balance of the day in air-conditioned environment.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
