We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Specialist to support the implementation and maintenance of food safety and quality initiatives within a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate documentation, supporting system changes, ensuring inspection readiness, and providing general facility support. The Specialist will also serve as a backup for key food safety and quality-related activities.
This position requires the ability to work in a hybrid onsite schedule in the greater Newark, NJ area.
This is a full time, permanent position offering standard benefits.

responsibilities:
- Ensure facility compliance with current food safety code requirements by managing standard operating procedures, policies, and food safety protocols.
- Oversee execution and compliance of Food Safety Plans, including critical control points and preventative controls under relevant food safety programs.
- Support daily operations related to vendor and material documentation, including supplier compliance tracking.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders across various departments and with external partners and regulatory bodies.
- Manage document control systems for food safety and quality programs, including triggering periodic reviews and updating critical documentation.
- Conduct and document internal audits to identify and address quality assurance and food safety issues.
- Maintain records for vendor and internal nonconformances, including tracking and closing corrective and preventative actions.
- Support mock recalls and traceability exercises.
- Assist in the validation of procedures for Food Defense, Food Fraud, and the Foreign Supplier Verification Program.
- Ensure allergen program compliance to mitigate cross-contact risks.
- Identify process gaps and partner with teams to implement documentation and procedural improvements.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation repositories.
- Manage Engineering Change Notices and non-conforming equipment corrective and preventative actions.
- Participate in internal, external, and third-party audits and support post-audit follow-up.
- Recommend improvements that enhance food safety systems, reduce cost, and elevate customer satisfaction.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
qualifications:
Requirements/Must-Haves
- Relevant experience as a certified food safety practitioner.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Proficient in document control and writing technical documentation in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Strong skills in standard office software, including the use of data analysis tools like pivot tables.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities to interact effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Proven track record of following procedures, resolving ambiguity, and working under minimal supervision.
