Job Details
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and optimize slow queries (query profiling, execution plans, schema/index tuning)
- Identify and remediate database performance bottlenecks (index strategy, parameter tuning, workload analysis)
- Design an archiving/purging strategy to reduce overall database size while maintaining data integrity and access needs
- Establish/validate operational best practices (monitoring, alerting, backup/restore, performance baselines)
- Plan and execute Aurora MySQL engine upgrades, including blue/green deployments to minimize or eliminate downtime
Required skills
- Strong MySQL performance tuning experience (query plans, query optimization, indexing, transactions/locking)
- Strong diagnostics toolkit (EXPLAIN/EXPLAIN ANALYZE, slow query log, Performance Schema, cloud monitoring)
- AWS Aurora/RDS operations experience (blue/green, parameter groups, replicas, failover behavior, maintenance windows)
- Experience designing retention/archival approaches for large datasets (partitioning, rollups, offline storage, ETL as needed)
- Ability to document and execute change plans safely (runbooks, risk mitigation, rollback strategies)
