We are currently seeking a Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer at Richardson, TX to work Parts, Materials, and Process. As a critical team member and leadership partner, the Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer will design, develop, and integrate the most technologically advanced systems in the world. This role is a lead position, responsible for clean sheet and upgrading electronic solutions. The person will work with other experienced engineers with extensive backgrounds in circuit card and firmware design, as well as mentoring less experienced engineers as they complete circuit card designs. The candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and will have the ability to work self-guided yet collaboratively in a team environment.

What You Will Do:
  • Provide hardware design guidance for parts and processes alignment for MIL-STD-11991 compliance
  • Review designs and provide direction with a working knowledge of MIL-STD-11991 Prohibitied (Parts, Materials, and Processes) PM&P
  • Review engineering part selection for qualification to MIL-STD-11991A, MIL-STD-1568, and other program-specific requirements.
  • Recommend and assist in selecting form-fit-function replacements and alternate sources of supply
  • Create non-conforming/variance component reports to be reviewed by PM&P review board.
  • Draft component specifications to ensure parts can be manufactured to meet program requirements.
  • Utilize your extensive experience in designing digital and analog products including microprocessor systems, low-power supplies, communication subsystems.
  • Utilize your extensive experience with circuit design, including schematic capture, power, FPGA resource utilization
  • Complete Knowledge of or experience with PCB layout, board stack ups, via structures, grounding strategies, impedance matching, trace width calculations
  • Utilize your extensive experience with signal integrity and designing for high-speed designs.
  • Use your in-depth familiarity with signal integrity, best practices, and ability to coordinate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to provide and/or source the needed inputs for subject matter experts to run models
  • Utilize your extensive experience with pre-placement of components and ability to coordinate with mechanical engineers to generation board outline files for circuit cards

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
  • Extensive Experience with Components identification and selection
  • Experience with Mixed Signal Design: One or more of the following. A/D Converters, Digital Down Converters, D/A Converters, Digital Waveform Generators, Mixed Signal CCAs, Mixed Signal Modules and Subsystems
  • Digital Hardware: One or more of the following. Subsystem/Module Digital Circuits, FPGA/ASICs, COTS Interfaces, Subsystem Development, VME/PCI interfaces Digital Systems, System Trades, Architecture, Embedded Processing
  • Ability to generate and communicate requirements and specifications for vendors to facilitate the quote and design of new hardware
  • Experience with new architecture development
  • 7 years using Accuris/IHS Part Intelligence, GIDEP, Part Finder or equivalent

Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Active DoD security clearance
  • Extensive parts/components selection, qualification, and testing for micro components functioning in the Aerospace environments.
  • 5+ years using DLA ASSIST and/or DLA Qualified Products Database (QPD/QPL)
  • Recent experience with 3U VPX and/or SOSA hardware
  • Understanding of backplane topologies, slot and module profiles of 3U VPX card sets
  • Prior experience in SAP environment
  • Circuit board design with Xilinx and/or Altera FPGA/SoCs
  • TEMPEST design experience
  • Working knowledge of EMI/EMC standards for military applications.
  • Experience designing Military Aircraft applications
  • Experience using ALM tools including Jira and Confluence
  • Experience working with industry standard toolsets for requirement capture and task (e.g. DOORs, Microsoft Project)
  • Experience in developing test procedures and test fixtures
  • Ability to read, create, and review engineering drawings including schematics, assembly drawings and parts lists
  • RF design experience
  • Experience interfacing to RF circuitry and high-speed A/D D/A conversion
  • Experience with implementation of high-speed backplanes
  • Experience with Mentor Graphics tool suite
  • Proven analytical skills using in-circuit simulation (Matlab, LT Spice)
  • Knowledge of firmware development, design, and test using suitable toolsets (Xilinx Vivado, ModelSim)
  • Experience with CAM (Cost Account Management) duties
  • Ability to lead teams and report status to management

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
