Overview

Support the Tax function by preparing decision-ready tax provisions and financial analyses across the Client and its subsidiaries. This role is hands-on and collaborative: you will prepare current provisions, learn and book entries in the system, build sustainable documentation that meets audit/regulatory expectations, and partner widely to gather the data tax needs.

What you ll do

  • Tax provisions (core): Prepare tax provisions for every company at the Client (subsidiaries and the bank entities). Prepare the current provision, applying temporary vs. permanent differences, tax credits, and related adjustments; based on experience, review selected provisions; learn and book those entries in the system.
  • PwC transition support: The Client plans to outsource tax compliance (returns) to PwC effective 1/1/2026. You will help gather and package data PwC requests (adjustments for returns, tax estimates, extensions) and improve templates/documentation.
  • State audits: With a manager, take assigned state audits compile supporting data, reconcile positions, respond to requests, and track items to closure.
  • Reporting & analysis: Research and compile raw data from varied sources into moderately complex reports/schedules; produce executive-ready summaries of trends/drivers and recommendations.
  • Modeling & controls: Execute and suggest enhancements to forecast/pro forma models; enhance sustainability & documentation of assigned tasks/processes; ensure outputs are audit-ready.
  • Collaboration: Work primarily with Tax managers/FA3s; gather data from other lines of business as needed (e.g., Leasing, Corporate Reporting, subsidiaries). Provide cross-training/support to new team members; may train junior staff.
  • Governance: Adhere to timelines/deliverables, internal controls, and risk/regulatory standards.

Must-have qualifications

  • Meets Financial Analyst II Education/Experience Required.
  • Tax accounting experience with hands-on tax provision preparation (temporary/permanent differences, tax credits) and journal-entry booking.
  • Advanced Excel (pivots/lookups; large datasets); strong documentation discipline and attention to detail.
  • Clear communicator who can translate complex tax topics into actionable outputs for management.
  • Able to work onsite in Buffalo, NY on a hybrid schedule (3 days/week).

Nice-to-have qualifications

  • OneSource Tax experience (provisioning; provision-to-compliance workflows).
  • Power BI and/or Alteryx for data prep and reporting automation.
  • Experience supporting state audits and coordinating with external advisors (e.g., Big 4).
  • Familiarity with bank/financial-services statements and close calendars.
