Stanford s Online High School is an accredited, diploma-offering, highly selective independent high school, offering courses for grades 7-12. The mission of is to foster a worldwide community of intellectually adventurous students and teachers. Our courses, created and taught by specialists in their academic fields, encourage students to continuously develop and test their own views as they integrate knowledge across disciplines. Small class sizes and synchronous class meetings populated by curious and engaged classmates and teachers make learning a meaningful and social experience. Stanford Online High School is also the new home of , which provides a diverse array of academic enrichment programs that take place mostly in the summer but also throughout the academic year. Held, primarily online, SPCS programs serve intellectually curious pre-college students from around the world.
Stanford Online High School and Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies offices are located at the , however this position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement upon mutual agreement.
The Technology Specialist will be part of the Stanford OHS Technology team and will support the technology needs of online and residential summer programs. This position serves as the first point of contact for SPCS and OHS instructors, teaching assistants, students and parents for any technical questions or issues related to the platforms supporting SPCS online, hybrid and in-person instruction.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance in the direct integration of technology into course curricula. This includes supporting SPCS and OHS instructors in the use of both synchronous and asynchronous educational tools in their classrooms.
- Respond to technical support request tickets from students enrolled in SPCS year long and summer enrichment programs resolve technical challenges preventing students from fully participating in their online or in person/hybrid classes.
- Provide technical support assistance to the SPCS and OHS Student Life teams as well as residential summer program staff for virtual events.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic issues on the main school platforms including Student Information System (Powerschool), Learning Management System (Canvas), and Virtual Classroom software (Adobe Connect and Zoom). Escalate complex issues to other members of the SPCS and OHS tech team, other OHS or Stanford departments, and external vendors.
- Participate in the development of resources, seminars, courses, or workshops to disseminate information about uses of technology.
- Maintain and enhance technical training documentation and troubleshooting knowledge base for students, parents and SPCS and OHS instructors/staff.
- Participate in the configuration and logistics of equipment issued to students as part of an equipment loaner program.
- Support in person/hybrid classes on Stanford University campus with basic AV equipment.
- Proactively test and troubleshoot tech setups for virtual, in-person, and hybrid classes and events to identify potential access or functionality issues, ensuring smooth operation.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
- Bachelor's degree or combination of education and relevant experience.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
- Current knowledge of the latest software and operating systems.
- Strong customer service mindset and experience providing technical customer support.
- Ability to analyze technical problems and relate answers and recommendations to users adapted to their level of technical skills and knowledge.
- Knowledge of learning management systems (like Canvas) and various classroom and online learning technologies (like Zoom).
- Basic knowledge of software engineering principles.
- Being familiar with ticket systems like Salesforce or others.
- Strong written communication skills. Being able to respond to tickets and requests in a very professional manner.
- Familiarity with AV systems and being able to do minimal troubleshooting.
Physical Requirements, Working Standards & Conditions:
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
- Occasionally stand/walk, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
- Rarely writing by hand, use a telephone
- Extended hours and weekends.
The expected pay range for this position is $28.42 - $47.45 per hour, not to exceed 30 hours per week. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
