As a Communications Technician II, you'll take on a leadership role in structured cabling and telecom installations. You'll handle hands-on technical tasks while guiding small teams to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to high quality standards.
What You'll Be Doing
- Install voice/data outlets in walls, floors, and modular furniture (CAT3/CAT5 terminations, faceplates, surface mount boxes)
- Build telecom closets: mount backboards, racks, patch panels, fiber hardware, and grounding systems
- Terminate and test cabling: complete IDC connections (110/66 blocks), patch panels, and perform continuity testing
- Troubleshoot cabling issues: identify shorts, opens, crosses, and transposed pairs using tone sets and volt-ohmmeters
- Identify active circuits for voice and data
- Lead small crews: coordinate daily tasks, train team members, and manage timelines
- Complete project documentation: timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, and tool logs
- Follow safety and quality standards set by the company, client, and industry
- Support other duties as assigned by leadership
What You Bring

- Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs
- Good vision and hearing-able to distinguish colors and recognize audible signals
- Willingness to travel within the region as needed
- Reliable attendance and commitment to project timelines
Tools You'll Use
You should be proficient with tools such as:
- Screwdrivers (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves
- Punch tool (110 and 66 block blades), tone set, 6/8 position combo crimp tool
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum 2 years of experience in telecom or a related technical field
- Ability to supervise and train others
- Skilled in reading blueprints and project documentation
- Familiar with universal telecom color codes
- Must meet company driving standards
