We're Salesforce, the Customer Company, inspiring the future of business with AI+ Data +CRM. Leading with our core values, we help companies across every industry blaze new trails and connect with customers in a whole new way. And, we empower you to be a Trailblazer, too - driving your performance and career growth, charting new paths, and improving the state of the world. If you believe in business as the greatest platform for change and in companies doing well and doing good - you've come to the right place.

We are seeking a Senior Manager of Software Engineering to lead the Reliability Engineering team responsible for operating Salesforce's multi-substrate compute platform, powered by Kubernetes, Service Mesh, Ingress Gateway, and Identity Solutions across 1000s of clusters. This platform transparently adds critical capabilities like observability, traffic management, and security to microservice-based applications across thousands of clusters.

This is a critical leadership role blending deep technical expertise with a people-first leadership mindset. The leader will set the vision and drive the operations, reliability for the next-generation Service Mesh and Identity architecture across multiple clouds (AWS, AliCloud, Google Cloud Platform). Responsibilities include orchestrating, monitoring, availability and operations for the microservices supporting service mesh and ingress gateway on a large fleet of 1000+ clusters running various technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, network load balancers, service mesh, Istio and so on.

Your Impact:
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of platform engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical leadership in areas such as Kubernetes, Service Mesh, Ingress Gateway, Network Protocols, Monitoring Softwares, Public cloud infrastructure (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure) and CI/CD Orchestration.
  • Drive the execution and delivery of features by collaborating with many multi-functional teams, architects, product owners and engineering managers
  • Contribute to strategic planning and help define the long-term technical roadmap for the platform.
  • Make critical decisions that attribute to the success of the product. Be proactive in foreseeing issues and resolving it before it happens
  • Provide effective technical direction, ensuring that good architectural decisions are made.
  • Coach and mentor the team, maintaining high morale and motivating the team to go above and beyond
  • Navigate complex people situations with empathy and clarity, always keeping team health and business goals in balance.
  • Champion and guide the use and contribution to open-source technologies, with a clear strategy for integration, support, and ongoing community engagement.
  • Champion best practices in software development and infrastructure-as-code (IaC).

Requirements:
  • 10+ years of industry experience, with 3+ years in a people leadership role managing successful software engineering teams.
  • Proficiency in software development methodologies, technologies, and tools, with proven success in leading and delivering large-scale initiatives working with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, as well as expertise in Kubernetes and modern orchestration tools like terraform and argo.
  • Strong knowledge of network technologies, such as TCP/IP, DNS, TLS termination, HTTP proxies, etc.
  • Strong Experience in Observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, ElasticSearch etc.
  • Experience and passion for service ownership, building reliable/self-healing services.
  • Experience working in a complex team environment. Able to deliver under pressure and dependency constraints.
  • Experience at Scrum or other agile development methodologies, with attention to code quality, delivering secure code
  • Good programming background, ideally with experience in Go (Golang), Python, or similar languages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proven ability to navigate team dynamics, resolve conflicts, and facilitate career development discussions.
  • Experience managing and utilizing open-source technologies, including developing contribution strategies and engaging with upstream communities (preferable)
