As a Structural Adhesives and Sealer Engineer, you will be spearheading the next-generation development of adhesives and sealers critical for body and battery structures. Your role involves developing new technologies (materials) to support future architectures, guiding projects from their initial concept phase right through to launch.

The successful candidate will possess a profound breadth of knowledge in material engineering, coupled with a proven track record of innovative thinking and execution. This role demands a candidate who can guide the development and application of new technologies while achieving the highest standards of performance.

What you'll be able to do:
  • Innovate and develop new adhesive and sealer technologies for enhanced structural integrity.
  • Guide the technical direction for the development and application of new materials, ensuring alignment with broader company goals.
  • Lead cross functional teams to develop new materials and joining / bonding applications that deliver future strategic solutions
  • Benchmark competition and develop advanced projects to ensure Ford is best in class
  • Close cooperation with CAE team for the development of simulation methods and joint cards
  • Feasibility assessment of program-specific material combinations during the development phase
  • Planning, execution, and evaluation of adhesive & sealing joining trials with new materials and/or joining processes in internal and external laboratories in alignment with cross-functional teams
  • Lead projects from concept through to launch, ensuring timelines, quality, and performance standards are met.
  • Sign-off Adhesive and Sealer related requirements at key program milestones
  • Lead/participate in solving production issues with manufacturing and cross-functional teams; these include and are not limited to: Stop-Ships, Field Service Actions, Warranty, Material Shortages
  • Drive continuous improvement in the supply base


The minimum requirements we seek:
  • B.S. in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related physical science field of study
  • 5+ years experience with job responsibilities specific to adhesives and sealers in body structures
  • 3+ years of experience using 3D CAD software, Proficiency with CATIA V6 (3DX)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse global team with good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have an aptitude to learn and incorporate new technologies
  • Ability to plan effectively for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented personality with effective documentation and reporting
  • Must be reliable, innovative, committed, and quality focused
  • Experience in all program phases from Pre-Program through Launch
  • Demonstrated expert-level knowledge in Adhesives and Sealer (pumpables, tapes, baffles, extruded other) products and supply base
  • Working knowledge of applicable Design, Analysis, Verification, Quality, Manufacturing, and Assembly methods
  • Demonstrated improvements in customer satisfaction, reduction in warranty, total cost reduction
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to guide the development of new technologies.
  • Ability to work in an extremely fast-paced environment and deal with multiple tasks at the same time
  • Self-starter: ability to work effectively with little oversight


Preferred Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in Engineering
  • Excellent understanding of GD&T standards
  • Innovative thinker with a passion for sustainability and emerging automotive technologies.
  • High level of expertise and proficiency with Catia, Enovia, or similar tools including drawing and modelling practices and methodologies
  • Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Certificate of Accomplishment from a recognized Design educational institution, or equivalent skills and expertise
  • An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team
  • A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement
