Clean Harbors is looking for a Senior Vice President of Health & Safety to join our team! The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Health & Safety is accountable for the strategic leadership, direction, and execution of all health and safety initiatives within the Business Line they support.

Reporting to the EVP of Health & Safety, this role serves as the senior-most safety executive for the business line, with full responsibility for shaping and advancing the H&S vision, culture, performance, and risk management strategies.

The SVP partners closely with business line leadership and external customers where applicable, to embed safety as a core business value and operational priority.

This role is responsible for leading cross-functional H&S initiatives, aligning business-specific safety programs with enterprise-wide standards, and delivering measurable improvements through both leading and lagging performance indicators.

The SVP will ensure sustained compliance, risk mitigation, and cultural ownership of safety throughout all levels of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensuring Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and always acting in a safe manner.
  • Advance the safety culture by developing safety systems, HS standards and procedures, safety campaigns, and programs to eliminate, prevent or control hazards, acts or behaviors.; Lead the development of enterprise system enhancements necessary to support tracking and reporting of Health & Safety performance.
  • Monitor, interpret and analyze business impact of HSE laws, standards or regulatory initiatives that impact the Business Unit in the geographic areas in which it does business.
  • Develop, integrate and execute Business Unit strategies, policies, programs, procedures, standards, training, processes and actions throughout the business organization to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop, align and implement annual and short term HSE action plans, projects, initiatives, goals and objectives that maintain the balance between corporate objectives, business needs, and operations, including annual operating plans, capital planning, resource staffing and budgeting.
  • Implement corporate and business unit strategy, along with organizational requirements to develop and execute activities to achieve H&S and business objectives.
  • Analyze all HSE implementation options; Prepare risk analyses with costs and benefits; Establish strategic planning process that leads to cost-effective and compliant operations; Align business-unit wide resources to sustain H&S and business performance; Develop and manage the departmental budget; ensuring strategic goals are funded.
  • Ensure the adequate assessment, prevention and management of HSE issues and risks arising from operations, incidents, company service lines, including inspecting, assessing, monitoring, investigating, and recommending corrective action; Conducts trend analysis; Document compliance with standards; Perform technical work, program design and implementation, including accountability for outcomes of HSE issues.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct assessments, inspections and audits to monitor compliance with HSE protocols and company requirements; Partner with operations to ensure that corrective and/or preventive measures are completed; Establish and enable processes to enhance corporate and operational capabilities for increased self-governance.
  • Supervise, coach, and mentor the professional development of HSE professionals
  • Other duties as assigned.




QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in HSE, Engineering, Technical or Business Administration required.
  • 10-15 years of experience.
  • Advanced professional certification in Health (CIH), Safety (CSP), or Environmental fields (CEP).
  • Six Sigma experience.
  • Ability to present to Executive Management and Board of Directors.
  • Ability to meet with and present to agencies, customers, and potential business partners.
  • Ability to design, implement, monitor and revise (as necessary) budget for large organization.
  • Advanced PC and IT skill and demonstrated capability. (mgt. systems, programs, databases).
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Understand business issues, metrics, organizational linkages, and customer value.
  • Lead, communicate, and influence toward desired process, actions, and outcomes.
  • Ability to work and make decisions independently.
  • Ability to project manage and facilitate multiple projects and tasks.
  • People and team development.
  • Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to travel 25-75%.
