Position: Lead Aerospace Design Engineer
Industry: Manufacturing
Type: 6+ months contract-to-hire
Location: Los Angeles, CA (5x on-site)
Pay Rate: $80 - $85 per hour
Day to day:
- Develop mechanical design layouts and define requirements and interfaces, including Level 0-2 documentation.
- Run analysis tools to develop system performance budgets, specifically for size and weight.
- Execute trade study assessments for varying mechanical configurations based on performance and budget.
- Develop mechanical layouts, select components, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Create detailed mechanical assembly or test procedures and test setups for part/assembly qualification.
Must haves:
- Bachelor s Degree in Mechanical, Structural, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years of experience, including significant time designing structural or avionics systems for space.
- 5+ years of experience with Siemens NX and NX Teamcenter.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
- Experience supporting development and qualification test campaigns of flight hardware.
- Familiarity with issue-tracking applications like JIRA or TRAC and experience working with government agencies.
- Proficiency in finite element analysis (FEA) using FEMAP/NASTRAN or equivalent tools.
- Experience with space hardware thermal vacuum (TVAC) and vibration testing.
- Solid understanding of design for manufacturing (DFM) methods.
- High sense of ownership and the ability to deliver results independently with minimal direction.
- Master's or PhD in Mechanical, Structural, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Salary and Compensation:
The hourly rate for this position is between $80 - $85 per hour. Factors which may affect pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
