AZURE SQL DBA

Role: DBA
Location: - Remote; working EST hours

Duration: 6+ Months Contract

Project Scope:

Support and development of two main products Pharm Academic and Vestigo each with its own database. The team manages 6 production servers hosted in Azure SQL, focusing on data migrations, stored procedure optimization, and internal SQL training. The environment is regulated, and the team is ramping up SQL capabilities across the company.

Team Size & Breakdown:

• Ken s team: Infrastructure support
• Cherish s team: Migrations and client-specific projects
• No dedicated DBA; SQL knowledge exists but is being expanded internally

Development Methodology:

• Agile approach
• Emphasis on training, collaboration, and interpersonal communication
• Regulated environment with compliance considerations

High-Level Individual Duties:

• Data migration support (currently 5 queued migrations)
• Custom migration development
• Optimization of stored procedures
• Object creation and data movement
• Requirements gathering and project management for migrations
• Training internal staff on SQL
• Light production DBA responsibilities with heavier development focus
• Potential for architectural contributions (framework design)

Must-Haves (Concepts & Tools):

• SQL (Azure SQL Managed Instance)
• SSMS
• Azure Key Vault
• ETL (homegrown approach; training provided)
• Stored procedure optimization
• Strong interpersonal skills for PM and requirements gathering
• Object creation & data movement

Nice-to-Haves:

• Pharma background (highly valued but not required)
• Architectural skills (framework design)
• CICD/scripting experience
• Experience in regulated environments
• Core DBA experience
• Azure expertise (less critical than SQL)
