Job Description:
Pay Range: $24hr - $29hr
- The Laboratory IT Support Specialist serves as the primary technical support contact for field service engineers and external vendors, providing support for laboratory computing, benchtop systems, and scientific instrumentation.
- This role includes troubleshooting, implementing security solutions, managing networks, supporting hardware and software, and collaborating with IT staff and scientists across multiple locations.
- The position ensures compliance with IT policies, streamlines laboratory operations, and maximizes reliability and productivity.
- Serve as the primary technical support contact for field engineers and external vendors, managing scheduling, remote access, data migration, and troubleshooting.
- Implement Windows-based security solutions, including Active Directory, anti-virmalware programs, and network port management.
- Administer and maintain network connectivity for client and server-side Windows environments.
- Analyze, identify, and implement security upgrades and solutions to enhance desktop platform support.
- Document procedures, policies, troubleshooting steps, and create Knowledge Base articles as needed.
- Maintain inventory of laboratory PCs, peripherals, software, and related assets.
- Escalate unresolved IT issues to appropriate internal or external teams.
- Participate in technical projects supporting laboratory computing, collaborating with IT staff and clients.
- Manage schedules and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with corporate IT policies through reporting and participation in compliance programs.
- Research and prototype new technologies to optimize laboratory operations.
- Develop relationships with scientists, IT peers, and external partners to facilitate collaboration.
- Coordinate implementation, integration, and administration of new systems, including hardware and OS refreshes for benchtop systems.
- Participate in installation, documentation, and testing of upgraded laboratory instruments.
- Deploy and update data management tools for backup and archiving.
- Support LCS Systems Management processes, including imaging, software deployment, and configuration management tools (Altiris, SCCM).
- Act as an escalation point for troubleshooting instrument software and connectivity issues; monitor all incidents and requests in the service desk tracking tool.
- 5 7 years of hands-on experience with Windows 10 operating systems.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues independently.
- Exceptional customer service skills with strong problem-solving ability.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and LAN/WAN network architectures.
- Understanding of network cabling, patching, subnetting, and basic network security.
- Familiarity with ServiceNow ticketing system and reporting metrics.
- Experience with imaging, OS installation, and virtual backup solutions.
- Proficient in Altiris or similar deployment/management tools such as SCCM.
- Experience with remote desktop and remote support software.
- Knowledge of data storage, migration, and archiving best practices.
- Experience with Active Directory user, computer, and group management.
- Basic competency in Linux operating systems.
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Life Science, or equivalent industry experience.
- 5+ years of relevant technical experience, including Windows OS, networking, remote computing, and backup systems.
- Experience with AWS S3 storage and Virtual Workspaces is preferred.
- Experience working with scientific instrumentation is highly desirable.
