Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Engineering Manager to lead our Data Movement Engines Team. This team owns the real-time data pipelines and processing infrastructure that enhances the streaming experience for millions of members worldwide and powers critical business insights for Live, Ads, and Games. This team owns the eventing pipeline engine - Kafka, and two processing engines - Flink and Mantis - to meet the operational, analytical, and observability needs of our Netflix service. We strive to provide a robust and rich ecosystem of productivity tools for our Netflix engineers to leverage our infrastructure with ease. We operate over 600 Kafka clusters, 45k Kafka topics, 15k Apache Flink jobs, processing over 60 PB of data (14 trillion events) per day, and continuously innovating to enable this scale in a cost-efficient manner.

You will be responsible for:
  • Leading, mentoring, and growing a team of talented and diverse engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Defining and driving the technical vision and roadmap for Data Movement Engines, ensuring alignment with business goals and industry best practices.
  • Overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of complex engineering projects, ensuring high quality and timely completion.
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, product managers, and other engineering teams, to understand requirements and deliver solutions that satisfy business needs.
  • Staying abreast of the latest trends and advancements in data movement technologies, and drive the adoption of new tools and methodologies to enhance our platform.
  • Ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of the engines platform, implementing best practices for monitoring, alerting, and incident response.

What we are looking for:
  • An experienced leader with at least 5 years of experience managing business-critical high-performance teams of software engineers of various levels of experience
  • Deep understanding and experience with large-scale distributed systems, preferably with experience in Flink, Kafka, or other data platform engines like Spark, Trino, Cassandra, etc.
  • Strong track record of delivering impactful results through successful cross-functional partnerships with PMs, TPMs, and various engineering partners.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts and business values to diverse technical and business audiences.

Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top-of-market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $190,000 - $920,000.
