Essential Responsibilities:

  • Understand technical/business requirements gathered from the business units.
  • Analyze, design, and document platforms/systems to meet enterprise requirements.
  • Install, customize, maintain, test, and troubleshoot operating systems and other systems software.
  • Configure, install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot hardware systems.
  • Perform root cause analysis to quickly recover from service interruptions, and to prevent recurring problems.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging technologies for enterprise use to consistently drive down total cost of ownership.
  • Provide technical support, as needed, to the enterprise.
  • Perform technical reviews comparing enterprise standard platform components with that of their leading industry competitors.
  • Consult with other business units (e.g. application groups, DBAs, middleware, etc.) to configure platforms for product installation.
  • Design and document enterprise standards and procedures.
  • Ensure platforms/systems conform to established enterprise/industry standards (systems management, security, operating systems, etc.) and reference models.
  • Implement changes to platforms with minimal impact to the business by following enterprise standards and procedures.
  • Monitor, manage, and tune platforms to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved.
  • Provide on-site, and on-call 7x24x365 support, as needed.
  • Coordinate activities with internal/external technology owners/service providers.
  • Plan and implement life cycle management of software and hardware.
  • Keep abreast of industry and technology trends.
  • *May perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical operational support for all voice, data network and/or radio communication systems.
  • Provide technical /engineering support for staff system wide.
  • Document, track and update service tickets, inventory and new equipment.
  • Responsible for communication and network project design, installation and documentation support.
  • Other requirements include developing resource plans, risk assessments, project plans, checkpoint reviews and other deliverables as the project requires.
  • Assist leaders in identifying the proper scope for projects.
  • Develops an initial plan to clearly define the project requirements and determine an appropriate solution design.
  • Tracks, manages and adjust project plans as necessary to ensure success.
  • Define radio communications infrastructure requirements to suit customer needs.
  • Install or supervise installation of radio communications infrastructure.
  • Monitor radio communications infrastructure performance.
  • Ensure radio communications system stability.
  • Trouble shoot radio communication system problems.
  • Practice safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
  • Capable of performing facilities maintenance as needed.
  • Should be able to lift and move equipment upwards of 75lbs.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Degree or certification and minimum 3 years working knowledge of Radio Communications including HF, VHF, UHF and Trunk radio Systems preferred.
  • Portable, Mobiles, repeaters, Base Stations.
  • Working knowledge of Integrated Radio Communications Console Systems experience preferred.
  • Working Experience with RF Communications Systems Design.
  • Working Experience with RF Interference Troubleshooting preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Airline Air to Ground and Ground to ground Communications Systems preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Radio-Telephony systems.
  • Working knowledge of processes associated with Local Exchange Carriers and AT&T.
  • Emergency Airline Radio Operations experience
  • Vendor Management skills related to Radio Communication Vendors preferred.
  • FCC general Radio License preferred, but not required.
  • Strong Project Management Skills including RFI, RFP and RFQ preferred.
  • Related project management software systems preferred.
  • Knowledge with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Visio, Access, Project and Power Point).
  • Manpower planning and tracking preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Data Communications and Network Systems appropriate to Radio Systems required.
  • Servers, Database and PC Operations preferred.
  • On call support as required.
  • Travel system wide as required.
  • Knowledge of Airline Communications preferred.
  • Flight Operations, Ground and Technical Operations a plus.
  • Working knowledge with FCC and FAA regulations for radio Communications preferred.
  • Capable of performing facilities maintenance as necessary.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be performing satisfactorily in current position.
  • Engineer is responsible for tools to perform daily job function
