Systems Integrator
Position Summary
The Systems Integrator is responsible for commissioning, configuring, and validating building automation or control systems. This role ensures systems operate according to design intent by following established commissioning procedures, documenting results, and coordinating closely with engineering, programming, and field personnel.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
REQUIRED:
15+ years of experience in HVAC systems
- 10+ years of controls experience.
- 10+years of BACnet controls experience.
- Proficient with Alerton, Distech, Delta, Niagara, or Tridium programming
Project Coordination & Planning
- Review incoming project assignments and evaluate scope, timelines, system requirements, and sequences of operation.
- Collaborate with engineering and programming teams to confirm system architecture and integration needs.
- Organize commissioning plans, prioritize tasks, and manage workloads to maintain project schedules.
Subcontractor & Field Oversight
- Guide electrical or installation subcontractors on priority areas, proper installation practices, and sequence of tasks.
- Answer technical questions and verify that field installation aligns with system requirements and industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with installation methods and report any deficiencies requiring correction.
System Commissioning & Integration
- Execute commissioning activities, including equipment start-ups, functional testing, system tuning, and validation.
- Coordinate with programmers and engineers to resolve issues, apply system modifications, and complete updates.
- Prepare and deliver system turnover documentation to project management and support final project close-out efforts.
Communication & Reporting
- Provide regular updates to Project Managers and Construction/Field Coordinators regarding system progress and milestones.
- Document daily activities, test results, and changes in project conditions in logs, reports, and commissioning records.
- Identify schedule impacts or required change orders and communicate them promptly to stakeholders.
Financial & Operational Support
- Assist operations leadership by reviewing labor and cost reports; support corrective action plans as needed.
- Help maintain project profitability by ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and within established budgets.
System Performance Verification
- Participate in end-to-end system performance reviews to confirm that installations meet design intent and operational requirements.
- Assist in troubleshooting communication issues, equipment faults, and network-level problems using diagnostic tools.
Technical Expertise & Continuous Learning
- Maintain current knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and control-system installation practices.
- Stay informed through workshops, industry publications, and approved training programs.
- Utilize and interpret various communication and integration protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks) and related diagnostic tools.
Documentation Management
- Update wiring diagrams, sequences, commissioning sheets, and integration notes as changes occur in the field.
- Ensure all system documentation is accurate, complete, and transmitted to project teams in a timely manner.
Team Collaboration & Leadership
- Demonstrate a positive, collaborative attitude and lead by example in the field.
- Assist in onboarding and training new employees; share technical knowledge with team members.
- Contribute to a strong team environment by supporting colleagues and completing related duties as needed.
