Role Overview:
The Senior Network Engineer will lead design and upgrade efforts for enterprise network infrastructure across a large-scale IT program. This role involves collaborating with technical teams to modernize and optimize network environments using advanced technologies and automation, while ensuring mission alignment and operational efficiency.
Primary Duties:
- Analyze current network architecture and design modern WAN/MAN/LAN solutions.
- Recommend and implement best practices such as SDN, intent-based networking, and segmentation protocols.
- Design telecommunications circuit specifications.
- Identify and plan for routers, switches, and encryption devices needed for enterprise services.
- Deliver service catalog items enabling automated provisioning using Infrastructure-as-Code.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network architecture specifications and artifacts.
- Provide detailed schematics and specifications for network design and upgrades.
- Conduct cost/benefit analysis and recommend optimal hardware/software solutions.
- Execute testing and validation of network designs.
- Monitor and configure network hardware for optimal operation.
- Plan and implement network enhancements and upgrades.
- Advise users on hardware requirements and limitations.
- Maintain technical expertise in networking hardware/software integration.
- Evaluate emerging communications technologies to enhance network capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI clearance.
- Information Assurance certification compliant with DoD 8570 IAT Level III.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with Cisco network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, unified communications).
- Proven experience in VMware environments.
- Skilled in virtual and physical IP and Fiber Channel networks, including routing protocols.
- Demonstrated ability in designing and troubleshooting LAN, WAN, and low-bandwidth networks using encryptors.
- Proficiency in automation tools such as Ansible or Python.
- Expertise in Software-Defined Networking (SDN).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
- Knowledge of change management processes.
- Working knowledge of DISN or CANES systems.
- Proficiency with Visio or similar diagramming tools.
Desired Qualifications
- Professional certifications in Cisco, VMware, or ITIL.
Certifications:
- DoD 8570 IAT Level III certification (e.g., CASP+, CISSP, or equivalent).
- Cisco, VMware, and/or ITIL certifications (preferred).
