Workday HCM Architect

Location: Richmond, VA | Hybrid

Duration: 12 Months

We are seeking a Workday HCM Architect to lead AMS techno-functional support and enterprise optimization across core HCM modules. You ll ensure stability, compliance, and data accuracy while driving innovation in Workday configuration and process design. This role combines functional leadership and technical depth, partnering with HR and IT stakeholders to enhance global HR processes, integrations, and configuration governance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead AMS support and enhancements across Workday HCM modules, including Core HCM, Compensation, Benefits, Absence, and Time Tracking.
  • Conduct configuration reviews and align design decisions with global HR policies and compliance standards.
  • Evaluate change requests, analyze business impact, and ensure proper testing and release management.
  • Collaborate with leaders in HR, Payroll, and Finance to prioritize system enhancements and new feature adoption.
  • Work with the Technical Architect to manage dependencies in integrations for recruiting, payroll, or downstream systems.
  • Lead global and regional HR configuration efforts including new country enablement and localizations.
  • Oversee functional release readiness, regression planning, and adoption of new Workday features.
  • Maintain configuration inventory, process documentation, and Workday governance standards.
  • Drive process improvements based on incident trends, SLA metrics, and health assessments.
  • Participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings and AMS backlog reviews.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of Workday experience, including 4+ in AMS or post-production support roles.
  • Workday certification(s) required in at least two HR modules (Core HCM, Payroll, Compensation, Absence, Time Tracking).
  • Proven experience advising on HR transformation, configuration governance, and release management.
  • Strong understanding of HR business processes, global compliance, and system design best practices.
  • Experience with ServiceNow, Jira, or ITSM tools.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience supporting multi-region Workday tenants (US, Mexico, UK, or India preferred).
  • Familiarity with Workday Security, reporting, and workforce analytics.

Preferred:

  • Hands-on experience with Advanced Compensation, Benefits, or Recruiting.
  • Prior involvement in HR technology transformation or AMS leadership roles.
  • Background in HR process optimization, automation, and reporting strategy.
