Job Details
We re currently searching for a senior level Route Switch Engineer. This is a 6-12 month project, 100% remote based. We need someone with L2/L3 and multicast experience. Per client request, we can't utilize 3rd party firms.
- Minimum 5 years experience
- Proven track record and proficiencies around the following:
- Ability to review network documentation and tools
- Understand Extreme code levels (i.e. version 8.10 on Virtual Switch Platform (VSP))
- Identify Fabric runs and document necessary remediation
Understand Layer 1 connectivity and port allocation
- Fiber infrastructure validation for speed capabilities Detailed mapping of port mapping for Top of Rack (ToR) migration planning
- Identification of existing Circuits used for site-to-site Understand Layer 2 VLAN s
- Spanning-tree definition for legacy and new infrastructure interoperability. Develop understanding of any existing Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) deployed today - Mode (Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) / Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) / Common Spanning Tree (CST)) - Diameter - Root Priority - Optional commands (Port-fast, Root-guard, Simple Loop Prevention Protocol (SLPP), Bridge Protocol Data Units (BPDU)-Filter)
- Discovery of existing VLAN IDs as well as overlap and mismatched segments currently bridged together. - Overlapping IDs - VLAN to Individual Service Identifier (ISID) match vs unmatched - Non-Cisco VLAN IDs
- Extended segments need to be clearly understood to minimize disruption to the environment during migrations. Determine which segments are stretched along with any third party vendors relying on the stretched segments. - Layer 2 extensions - Third party solutions dependent on extension - CampData Center (DC) extensions Understand Layer 3
- Map Extreme ISIDs, Virtual Sensor Network (VSN), and Switched Virtual Interfaces (SVI) - (Limit to two thousand five hundred (2500) ISID VLANs within ININD Market)
- Routing protocols - Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) - Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) - IS-IS - Static - Other
Understand Multicast
- Multicast is in use within the Health industry. The comprehensive discovery outlined above is required for a successful migration. Determining what will be necessary for a successful migration of multicast includes discovery of the protocols listed below.
- Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM)
- Multicast Source Discovery Protocol (MSDP)
- Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) Ability to drive Design sessions and collaboration
- Develop Rack Elevations
- Develop Cable mappings
- Develop port mappings
- Develop ATPs
- Multicast
- PIM
- MSDP
- IGMP
- Identify code versions for new hardware
- Determine devices administered by Nexus Dashboard Fabric Controller (NDFC) and other
- Determine STP domains and optional commands
- Determine segment/VLAN groupings
- Layer 3 - Routing - Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP) - Exterior Gateway Protocol (EGP) - Virtual Extensible Local Area Network (VXLAN)
- Validate Small Form-Factor Pluggable Plus (SFP+)/ Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable (QSFP) (type/quantity)
- MOP development
- Supplier will develop Layers 2 and 3 uplinks to existing Extreme IDF and Core switches necessary for migration only
Ability to assist with Integration and Migration activities
- Details surrounding migrations are highly dependent on discovery. These details will be provided during the migration planning steps
- Migrations will occur at the Layer 1 (port moves) Layer 2 (VLANs), Layer 3 (SVIs and routing), and Data Center Interconnect (DCI) (Initial sequence number (ISN)) levels.
- Layer 3 SVIs
- Multicast
- L2/L3 DCI/ISN
- IDF (Edge)
- ToRs
- Cores
- Supplier Configuration for Legacy Core Replacement assets will be as follows:
- Interconnect configuration for new Cisco Core
- Transition configuration to support LAN cuts on Extreme and temporary interconnect to new core
- Extreme IDF uplink configurations to support the LAN migration to Cisco core (UP to six (6) configuration types)
Remote conditions
Core CST hours
