Job Title: Data Scientist Risk Intelligence Location: New York City (In-Person, 5 Days/Week) Company Overview:
About the Role:
As a foundational hire on the Risk & Underwriting Team, the Data Scientist Risk Intelligence will play a critical role in scaling Highbeam s credit operations from $10M to $100M+, while maintaining high portfolio quality. You will build risk models, underwriting dashboards, and automated decision tools that drive intelligent lending decisions across Highbeam s platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, test, and productionize credit risk and underwriting models.
- Develop and maintain risk dashboards and portfolio monitoring tools.
- Automate underwriting workflows using data-driven insights and ML models.
- Perform back-testing, model tuning, and loss forecasting.
- Collaborate with underwriters and product teams to align business goals with risk analytics.
- Contribute to broader AI and decision intelligence functions over time.
Ideal Candidate Profile: Experience: - 4 8+ years in data science, ML engineering, credit analytics, or related domains.
- Experience in fintech lending, e-commerce risk, or financial services (e.g., Affirm, Shopify Capital, Wayflyer, Square, Klarna).
Technical Skills: - Expert-level proficiency in SQL and Python.
- Experience building production-level models and deploying via APIs or internal tooling.
- Comfortable with data wrangling, statistical modeling, and risk-based analytics.
Domain Expertise: - Strong understanding of credit risk, fraud detection, or underwriting models.
- Bonus if familiar with e-commerce platforms, transactional datasets, or SaaS product analytics.
Soft Skills: - Strong business acumen able to connect data science work with financial goals.
- Operates well in fast-paced, generalist startup environments.
- Communicates complex analyses with clarity to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
