Description
Candidates need have a background in network, Route & Switch or Firewall experience.
Under limited supervision, plans, designs, and directs the integration of individual network systems into the University's overall network structure
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
. Applies a thorough understanding of policy, practices, and technology in the planning and implementation of network services for the University. Maintains the University network and file servers. Provides high-level technical support, innovative solutions, and integrated proposals for network systems, including recommendations for network hardware and software acquisition, as appropriate. Supervises professional, technical staff and/or students.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (ex: duties that are essential to performing the job with or without an accommodation)
Oversees the day-to-day operation of computer networks including hardware/software support, training, and special projects; provides planning, leadership,
direction, and technical expertise to the campus on local and wide area network services and systems.
Maintains network documentation including hardware/software applications, support logs and other related information.
Monitors usage to ensure security of data and access privileges; installs, supports and maintains both physical and virtual network servers and appliances.
Maintains and updates AD, Exchange and VMware cluster.
Assists in installing, designing, configuring, and maintaining system hardware and software; analyzes and troubleshoots the network logs and tracks the
nature and resolution of problems.
Develops, maintains and implements network support, and archiving procedures.
Performs/recommends back-up procedures for Servers.
Maintains, monitors and configures Network Storage (SAN)
Identifies and coordinates all local campus network application services.
Provides advice and assistance and serves as a key resource person to system and campus administrators concerning network services facilities.
Provides technical oversight and assignment, supervision, and review of work performed professional, technical staff and/or students.
Maintains current of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
Plans, recommends and assists in the design of telecommunications systems. Analyzes and updates VOIP network system. Researches and recommends
telecommunications equipment; coordinates the ordering and installation of telecommunications and data systems equipment and cabling.
Participates in strategic and long-range planning for campus network services. Analyzes University needs regarding use of network equipment and services.
Recommends network acquisitions (hardware and software) with cost estimates.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree; at least 6 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified; OR Master's degree; at least 4 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in computer networking.
Ability to plan and guide the development, installation, maintenance and repair of computer network systems and servers.
Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
Knowledge of VMware, Exchange, AD and Linux.
Ability to prioritize requests, organize, schedule, and coordinate a variety of activities and projects in a deadline oriented environment.
Ability to identify and resolve network system malfunctions and operational problems.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Strong
commitment to customer service.
Self-motivated and disciplined to accomplish goals with a strong sense of responsibility.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy; good judgment, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Knowledge of all aspects of network services facilities.
Familiar with ITIL practices.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $34.00/hr.
