Akkodis is seeking a Nuclear Senior Mechanical Designer for direct hire job with a client in Lenexa, KS. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical/Piping Designer, working with construction and fabrication teams to deliver safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs. You'll support projects across industrial, power, and oil & gas sectors while mentoring junior staff and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
Rate Range: $140,000/year to $180,000/year plus 10% bonus plan; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
Nuclear Senior Mechanical Designer job responsibilities include:
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor's or associate degree in computer Aided Design and Drafting Technology, Engineering or related field. Preferably possess a PE, an EIT, or getting ready to sit for a PE exam within the next year.
Experience with design software such as SmartPlant 3D (or similar plant design 3D software) and MicroStation and AutoCAD required.
A minimum of 4 years up to 20 years of 3D modeling/detailed design experience is required, with the ability to perform 3D piping design, equipment layout, develop construction drawings. Experience validating and coordinating with other disciplines for compliance with layouts.
Experience in Nuclear, Industrial, Power, Oil ang gas, performing balance of plant type of design, (piping, pumps, valves, heating, cooling systems, is required). Must have experience of pipe support design, equipment layout and installation of systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
DOE and Commercial Nuclear experience preferred but not required.
Work productively and meet deadlines timely
Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.
Candidates preferred to live in Lenexa, KS or Oak Ridge, TN, but can work remote from Denver. CO/ Idaho Falls, ID/ Houston, TX while willing to travel onsite to Lenexa, KS quarterly.

- Create 3D equipment and piping models using SmartPlant 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, OpenPlant, etc.
- Design piping systems and generate isometric drawings for systems typical industrial facilities and power generation facilities. Perform facility layout, equipment arrangements, and early-stage design.
- Check designs for code compliance, interferences, and constructability.
- Collaborate with internal/external teams and support construction onsite.
- Lead scheduling, estimating, and mentor junior designers.
