Role Title: SAP EWM Architect
Employment Type: Contract to Hire
Duration: 6 Months Contract-to-Hire
Location: Chicago preferred; open to remote candidates with some travel to Chicago
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled, hands-on SAP EWM (Extended Warehouse Management) Architect to design, configure, and deliver scalable warehouse management solutions. This role is focused on direct solution delivery, not project oversight.
The Architect will work closely with business and technical stakeholders to translate complex warehouse and supply chain operations into robust SAP EWM designs. This includes requirements gathering, solution configuration, integration with SAP S/4HANA and external logistics systems, system testing, and driving successful go-lives across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and deploy SAP EWM solutions aligned with business needs and SAP best practices.
- Work directly with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate operational workflows into detailed technical designs.
- Perform hands-on configuration across EWM areas such as inbound/outbound, inventory management, RF framework, labor management, and automation integration.
- Develop RICEFW functional specifications and ensure seamless integration with SAP S/4HANA and third-party logistics systems.
- Support data migration, unit/SIT/UAT testing, and cutover activities to ensure successful go-lives.
- Provide expert hypercare support and resolve complex production issues.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, process optimization, and new feature adoption.
- Stay current with SAP EWM innovations and recommend system enhancements.
- (Secondary) Mentor junior team members on SAP configuration best practices.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent experience.
Work Experience
- 10+ years in SAP Supply Chain modules, including 5+ years of deep hands-on SAP EWM experience.
- Proven configuration expertise with SAP EWM and SAP S/4HANA integration.
- Delivered at least two full-cycle SAP EWM implementations (blueprinting, configuration, testing, go-live).
- Strong experience integrating EWM with automated warehouse systems (conveyors, AS/RS) and external 3PL partners.
- Knowledge of integration points with PP, TM, QM, and FICO.
- Prior experience supporting global or multi-site warehouse rollouts (strongly preferred).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Expert-level understanding of warehouse processes: inbound, outbound, labor management, inventory management, VAS, and RF.
- Strong hands-on configuration expertise within SAP EWM and S/4HANA.
- Ability to create detailed functional and technical specifications for development teams.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication skills capable of translating technical concepts for business stakeholders and leadership.
- Ability to bridge business requirements with scalable technical solutions.
- Familiarity with Agile or hybrid delivery methodologies.
- Experience with cloud-based SAP deployments.
- SAP EWM certification preferred.
