The Engineering Technician II provides hands-on technical support to the R&D engineering team in the design, development, testing, and release of new products and technologies. You'll assist in building prototypes, conducting experiments, troubleshooting systems, and maintaining lab equipment. This role supports new product introductions, custom development, and sustaining engineering efforts, with a focus on precision, quality, and collaboration across departments.

You'll assist in building prototypes, conducting experiments, troubleshooting systems, and maintaining lab equipment. This role supports new product introductions, custom development, and sustaining engineering efforts, with a focus on precision, quality, and collaboration across departments.
Essential Duties and responsibilities and expectations:
- Support engineers in the assembly and testing of mechanical and electrical prototypes
- Set up experiments, collect data, and document test results to support product development
- Assist in troubleshooting systems, components, and assemblies-including mechanical parts, wiring harnesses, PCBs, and electronic modules
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of lab equipment and test fixtures
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
- Help train manufacturing and service teams on build and test procedures for new products
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized lab environment, ensuring equipment and resources are properly managed
- Provide observations and feedback to engineers to support design improvements
- Escalate safety, quality, or production concerns to supervisors as needed
- Manage time effectively across multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced R&D environment
Minimum Qualifications (Experience/Education):
Associate degree in a technical field (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Technology), or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3-5 years of relevant hands-on experience in a technical or engineering support role
Competencies or Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's):
- Foundational technical skills across mechanical, electrical, and software systems
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment, measurement tools, and test instrumentation
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
- Basic soldering skills and ability to perform work under a microscope
- Exposure to CAD software, schematic tools, or basic programming concepts
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering and manufacturing teams
- Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks across multiple projects
- Calm under pressure, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and escalation
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to vacuum or cryogenic systems
- Exposure to scientific instrumentation or high-precision systems
- Hands-on experience in a machine shop or fabrication environment
- Experience with data acquisition systems or automated test setups
